About this listen

A dark and sweeping adventure, Dreamcatcher is set in the haunted city of Derry - the site of Stephen King's It and Insomnia. In it, four young boys stand together and do a brave, good thing, an act that changes them in ways that they hardly understand.

A quarter-century later, as grown men who have gone their separate ways, these friends come together once a year to hunt in the woods of Maine. This particular year, a stranger stumbles into their campsite, and before long, the friends are plunged into the most remarkable adventure of their lives. They wind up in a life and death struggle, their only hope for survival locked in their shared past... and in the dreamcatcher.

Dreamcatcher indeed

Dreamcatcher is not one of Stephen King's best or most terrifying stories, in fact some parts of it can get quite boring as the characters travel between the second and third acts. But Jeffrey Demunn is one of the best narrators and actors for King's material and it shows here, turning a book that's still a little better than most into a fully realize story with rich detail.

Gold for a story, Poo for an ending

Where does Dreamcatcher rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

above the middle. The story and narration were great. plenty of humor, adventure, and suspense. A goo balance of suspense and payoff, until the end. I like most Stephen King books, but once again he can't seem to give it a good finish...ala dark tower series. It is great while it's going, but leaves you dissapointed at the ending, no big payoff for hours and hours of dedicated listening, detective like fact finding, and paying close attention etc.

What other book might you compare Dreamcatcher to and why?

The Dome, Also very long and interesting, with a less than stellar ending.

Which scene was your favorite?

All of the flatulence scenes. deep down inside, stephen king is still a thirteen year old, but I guess fart jokes just never go out of style. His elaboration reminds me of the "Barf-o-Rama" in The Body, or Stand by Me if you prefer.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Winter Heart of Darkness? I don't know.

Any additional comments?

I wish Stephen King would end his books as good as he did with his books under psuedonyms like running man and the four seasons, etc

Jeffery DeMunn does an excellent job as the narrator. His voice is clear with good pronunciation. And he does a good New England accent without sounding cheesy or fake.He may or may not be from northeast america, but you'd neve know from listening. I will definitely look for more books narrated by him.

Not Great Literature, but excellent escapism.

Stephen King may not write Great Literature, but he is a master at what he does write: edge-of-the-seat, grab-you-by-the-throat-and-don't-let-go thrillers with a supernatural edge. "Dreamcatchers" is no exception. I found I couldn't do anything else once I started listening to this book. I could quibble with certain plot features or point out how he is recycling his own and others' ideas, but I won't (although I will say that you'd better have a strong stomach for this one -- lots of unpleasant bodily function gore here); I enjoyed this thoroughly and would recommend it as pure escapism -- perfect for a summer "read." Jeffrey DeMunn, the reader, did an excellent job and I hope to see his name again on other Audible selections.

Fast-moving and Fun

Although a little crude, this story was fun and action packed. Like a formula action movie, the story crescendos with a chase sequence for the salvation of the human race. An over-the-top battle between good and evil in a edge-of-your-seat tale where anyone is at risk, you don't know how it's going to end, and you don't know who's going to survive. Although cliche filled, his willingness to kill anyone off at any time makes this story suspenseful.

If You Liked the Movie!!

If you've seen the movie, you must listen to the book. I must admit that I accidentally downloaded this book, but I am glad I did. The book really takes you into the minds of the characters. I can see now that the movie tried to, but it just could not capture it. This book really kept me listening.

Good story, but recording skips

Started reading the book many times, but never sat down to finish it. Downloaded the book to listen to on a cross-country move. Started out fine, but then there were many times that it would sound like a skipping CD that had scratches on it. Happened at least a dozen times. Then, there were long pauses occasionally like a CD was being changed (I thought this because they were pretty regular and happened about 15 times). Frustrating, thinking you had a truly digital copy, but realizing somebody just copied the CD over and never checked it.

Not a bad story, and more in depth than the movie, but frustrating recording.

Surprised how much I liked it

I’m a huge fan of Stephen king, yet lots of his books pale in comparison to others. This was somewhat similar to IT which is one of my top favorites. I love when he makes characters you can love from childhood to adulthood. Loved the whole book. Would recommend

Amazing performance!

Wow! I have so many audiobooks it isn't even funny and this is by far the best performance on any of them! Worth getting for the reading alone! I am an atrociously terrible flyer and this book has gotten me through 23k miles. I thank you Mr. DeMunn:)
