Publisher's summary

According to Freud, our unconscious impulses are not random, but packed with meaning, taking on color, form, and even a storyline. All dreams are actually wish fulfillments, and interpreting them can bridge the gap to the conscious, resulting in more meaningful living.

Editorial reviews

The theories of Sigmund Freud have long since broken out of the pen of psychotherapy and have influenced every stratum of art, science, and culture. The idea that our subconscious mind might be trying to tell us something hardly seems revelatory in the 21st century. And yet, Freud's theories on the subconscious, particularly on dreams, continue to startle. In the audiobook Dreams, excerpts from Freud's introductory lectures on psychoanalysis illuminate the ways our sleeping brain speaks to us, reformulating our memories, our anxieties, and our desires to haunt our waking life. A primer to some of Freud's most enduring ideas, this audiobook is narrated by Jonathan Reese, who brings a conversational clarity to this most fascinating of texts.

Didn't live up to expectations

I've always wanted to read this book but after listening to it, I was a little disappointed. It did have some interesting facts and tidbits in it that I will take out of this but overall, it was a little boring.

Clear, basic Freud, well read

If you like to leap-frog with a "hard" copy of the book as I do, be warned that this is actually section 2 of "Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis," (although a different translation from the standard Norton edition) NOT the rather different "Interpretation of Dreams".

That said, the narrator does a fine job--it's very easy to follow Freud's logic as he steps us through the technique of analyzing dreams. I wish there were more Freud available on audio.

Good for concept reviewing, not best narration!

The theme is one of the most challenging and interesting there is!. It has been for a long time! Freud and his theory of psychoanalysis revolutionize the modern society as a thinking, evolving body. This is must listen to any one caring for the basics of modern life.
