About this listen
In a time of peace, a man of war is our only hope.
They say hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.
Marco Emery was born into hard times. He was raised in war. He grew up in bomb shelters and on battlefields, fighting to survive. He became a soldier. A war hero. Then, after vanquishing his last enemy, he retired to raise a family.
And Earth moved on.
After a century of peace, humanity has sunken into decadence. The grandchildren of soldiers obsess over celebrities. The military is an echo of its former glory. Weak men rule good times.
Then the aliens attack. Merciless aliens. Terrors from deep space. They exterminate a distant colony. And now they're coming here. To Earth. And Earth is helpless.
Almost helpless.
Thanks to experimental life-extending treatments, Marco is still alive. In this new century, he's a relic. An oddity from the barbarous past. Yet in good times, strong men are Earth's only hope.

Neve records everything for history, and in the hopes of locating a clue as to where the dragons came from and how one might stop them.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

For some it’s an opportunity. For others it’s a moment to question their faith: In God, in science, in everything. Still others try to keep the world running in the face of absurdity and uncertainty. Exciting and Thought-Provoking!
I just finished this and it’s a fantastic listen! The story follows Marco Emery, a war hero from a brutal past, who becomes humanity's last hope against a terrifying alien invasion. The contrast between his hardened experiences and the decadent, peaceful society is really intriguing. If you love sci-fi with a mix of action and deep themes, this audiobook is a must. Highly recommend it!

Amazing!
This audiobook is an absolute gem for fans of science fiction and military epics. The narrator's performance truly brings Marco Emery's journey to life, capturing the essence of a soldier born in hard times and resurrected in an era of peace. The plot is gripping and thought-provoking, exploring the cyclical nature of human strength and weakness. An enthralling listen that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Edgy and captivating
This is a book about the cyclical nature of human society and the price of peace. Marco Emery, our protagonist, is a compelling figure born from strife. His childhood, marked by the horrors of war, crafted him into a soldier of remarkable prowess. The vivid portrayal of his upbringing in bomb shelters and battlefields is both harrowing and deeply engaging, grounding the reader in his grim reality. The century of peace that follows becomes a double-edged sword. The author skillfully depicts a society lulled into complacency, where the descendants of warriors have become preoccupied with trivialities, and the once mighty military has withered into a mere shadow of its former self. This societal decline sets the stage for the novel's central conflict: an alien invasion. I loved everything about the book.

Everything a Fan of Military SciFi Craves
"Earth of Gold and Light" by Daniel Arenson is the second book in the 'A Prayer for Earthrise' series, and man, it blew me away.
The story follows Marco Emery, a tough guy who grew up in the middle of wars, living in shelters and fighting on battlefields. After he defeats his last enemy, he settles down to live a quiet life and raise a family.
Jump ahead a hundred years, and the people of Earth have gotten used to living the easy life. The military has gotten pretty lazy because there hasn’t been any real danger for so long. But then these terrifying aliens wipe out a far-off colony and head straight for Earth. And surprise, surprise, we’re not ready for it at all. That’s where Marco comes back in, this old-school hero who steps up to save the world when no one else can.
Arenson does an amazing job creating a world you can get lost in. The descriptions are vivid, and the narrator makes you feel that you’re listening to an epic movie.
This book has everything a fan of military sci-fi craves – thrilling action, thought-provoking themes, and a hero you can really get behind. Trust me, you’ll be hooked.

This sophomore title does not disappoint! Arenson continues his well-thought-out immersive world-building and dynamic storytelling. Marco's character continues to develop throughout the story, and you will not be able to stop listening. The narrator does an awesome job of telling the story and adding to its ambiance.
