About this listen
A captivating collection of the most popular Egyptian myths.
It can be challenging to find a comprehensive and engaging collection of Egyptian myths considering the number of versions and translations available. However, look no further, as you have found a captivating audiobook that includes many of the most popular Egyptian myths in an easy-to-listen-to format.
This audiobook is divided into four parts. The first, titled “Cosmological Narratives,” contains myths concerning the creation of the world and how the ancient Egyptians understood the structure of the underworld and the passage to the afterlife.
“Myths of the Gods” contains the great myths of the gods Ra, Isis, Osiris, Horus, and Set.
The third section contains two political myths, the tale of the birth of Hatshepsut and “The Tale of the Famine”, both of which are stories created by rulers to consolidate their power by claiming divine intervention and favor.
Other stories, similar to what we today would call fairy tales, make up the last section of the audiobook, and they are full of magical wonders, animals that speak, and gods who reveal themselves to human beings and take an active role in their affairs.
In this audiobook, you'll find the following Egyptian myths and topics covered:
- Creation myths
- The birth of Osiris
- The tale of Isis and Osiris
- The lament of Isis and Nephthys
- The battle of Horus and Set
- The birth of Queen Hatshepsut
- The tale of the famine
- The shipwrecked sailor
- The two brothers
- The princess and the demon
- The taking of Joppa
- Two tales of Setne Khamwas

The stories in Hindu myth stem from traditions within Hinduism, drawing on stories from ancient texts, like the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Keep in mind that because different versions of Hinduism inspire different people, many different versions of the stories float through the jungle and over the stones of temples and traditions. The stories in this volume are my version, though I’ve stuck as closely to the original myths and legends as imagination allows.

Story
The Aztecs believed offerings of human blood and human lives were necessary to the continued running of the universe. Indeed, in Aztec myths, the gods themselves make sacrifices of their own blood and even of their entire bodies in order to create a universe humans can live in and, in one story, to create humans themselves. To the ancient Aztecs, these practices seemed fitting, necessary, and honorable, helping to connect the world of humans to the divine world of the gods, a universe that in Aztec myth took shape in cycles of creation, destruction, and rebirth.

Story
This audiobook includes tales of gods and goddesses, both major and minor, as well as kings and heroes, both historical and mythical. One such king is the hero of what many scholars believe to be the first written epic: Gilgamesh. In addition to creating connections between the human world and the divine, Sumerian myths explain how the world came to be in the first place. These myths establish the cosmic order, which places the greater gods, or Annunaki, at the top of the hierarchy, with the lesser gods, or Igigi, below them.

Most people have heard of the Celts - the elusive, ancient tribal people who resided in present-day England, Ireland, Scotland and France. Paradoxically characterized as both barbaric and innocent, the Celts appeal to the modern world as a symbol of a bygone era, a world destroyed by the ambition of empire and the spread of Christianity throughout Western Europe. Despite the pervasive cultural and literary influence of the Celts, shockingly little is known of their way of life and beliefs, because very few records of their stories exist.

The poems of the Poetic Edda have waited a long time for a modern English translation that would do them justice. Here it is at last (Odin be praised!) and well worth the wait. These amazing texts from a 13th-century Icelandic manuscript are of huge historical, mythological, and literary importance, containing the lion's share of information that survives today about the gods and heroes of pre-Christian Scandinavians, their unique vision of the beginning and end of the world, etc.

From the translator of the best-selling Poetic Edda comes a gripping new rendering of two of the greatest sagas of Old Norse literature. Story
A new version of The Epic of Gilgamesh by Sebastian Lockwood. This is the story of Gilgamesh, King of Kings, who brought back knowledge from before the flood - who loved and lost his companion Enkidu and had to find out why we die. The Epic of Gilgamesh was written on clay tablets over 4,000 years ago, in what is today Baghdad Iraq - the Biblical Garden of Eden between the Tigris and the Euphrates. Lockwood gives a passionate reading from a text that faithfully follows the original.

Story
Do you know that the Sumerians believed that: The moon was actually a god child conceived unintentionally by the God Enlil and a maid? Or that humans were first created to do the chores on earth for the Gods and Goddesses? The ancient Sumerians lived a difficult life, and this is reflected in their myths. However, also reflected in their stories is their love for justice and the values which they most supported, among them beauty, honor, and truthfulness.

Awesome Details
This was awesome for writing my paper. I don't think it was easy to find the info I was looking for because there were too many things scattered in sections, but if you're willing to jump around in the text to get everything then this is a book that delivers.

Well-Written
It was well-written, with excellent pictures, and the author is an expert in her field, with field work behind her. It was fascinating to try and keep all the deities clear in my mind. I will be looking for more on all the deities of the area.

Straightforward
I enjoyed this approach to mythology. Folklore from another culture can be tricky without a base of information to work from. This book gives you a nice foundation.
