Absolutamente recomendable. Extremadamente detallado y libre de partidismos.
Una descripción extremadamente detallada y libre de partidismos de la historia de la segunda República en España.
Tiene una estructura cronológica que empieza en el contexto previo y que a menudo se pone igualmente en el contexto de lo sucedido en la Europa de aquella época. Éstos dos últimos puntos son fundamentales para ayudar a entender lo sucedido, no desde la perspectiva y cultura democrática actual, sino de la de principios del siglo XX, común en lo fundamental a la de la mayor parte del mundo occidental (como puede verse en los paralelismos y comparaciones mostrador por Payne).
Se trata fundamentalmente de un libro de historia, no un ensayo político. No debe afrontarse este libro como un acopio de munición para el revanchismo político ya que, como digo, el autor sobrevuela esas esclavitudes. Eso no significa, en absoluto, que tome una posición “neutral“ o equidistante, contemporizadora y otras posturas que tampoco ayudan a conocer la historia. Simplemente describe los hechos con increíble detalle y si expresa una valoración (pocas), es siempre sobre unos hechos “fríos“ que acaba de relatar, de forma que el lector puede sacar sus propias conclusiones.
Por decirlo de algún modo, este libro es justo lo contrario de esos supuestos libros de historia que expresan directamente juicios y conclusiones como si se tratara de hechos.
Muy buena lectura de Juan Carlos Villanueva. Enhorabuena!
En resumen, un libro absolutamente recomendable. Cuanta más gente lo lea en España, cualquiera que sea su tendencia política, mucho mejor.
