Publisher's summary

More than 50 years after her death, Eleanor Roosevelt is remembered as a formidable first lady and tireless social activist. Often overlooked, however, is her deep and inclusive spirituality. Her personal faith was shaped by reading the New Testament in her youth, giving her a Jesus-centered spirituality that fueled her commitment to civil rights, women's rights, and the rights of all "little people" marginalized in American society.

She took seriously Jesus's words and despite her life of privilege, she made the needs of those on the margins her priority. Eleanor: A Spiritual Biography provides insight into one of America's most famous women, particularly the spiritual influences that made her so active in social justice issues.

Eleanor’s story has strengthened my faith even more.

After reading this book I felt that I hadn’t truly known Eleanor before. Her spirituality was ingrained in every minute, hour, day and year of her life. She championed for so many and led her life committed to the betterment and the equality of all men. She was the revolution for racial equality from FDR to Lyndon B. Johnson. I would love to have met her.

Challenge to Women Everywhere

Though this was a spiritual description of Eleanor Roosevelt it was more a challenge to Christian women. It could also be a challenge to women of all races, creeds or color anywhere to be courageous about speaking out about injustices. Some women will suffer more than Eleanor for their acts. She would tell us, "Christ suffered for me. I can do it for others. "

Una Mujer Ejemplar

Me encantó conocer su historia, entender los retos a los que se enfrentó, y la forma en que llevó su vida siguiendo sus principios, y sin importarle las incomodidades que causaba su manera de pensar, a los demás.

Good story

While I have great respect for voice actors, I didn’t feel this narrator’s interpretation was in sync with the author’s text. I eventually borrowed the paperback to finish the book. The story of ER is a worthy read.

More about than Eleanor

The book quoted more Scripture and Jesus than it did about Eleanor Roosevelt. I was interested in a historical bio about Eleanor.
