About this listen

In this explosive new book, acclaimed investigative reporter Bill Gertz reveals how terrorist organizations and enemy nations like Communist China, North Korea, Russia, and Cuba - not to mention some so-called friends - are taking advantage of gaping holes in America's defenses to steal our most vital secrets to use them against us.

Gertz's unrivaled access to the U.S. intelligence and defense communities takes us deep inside the dark world of intelligence and counterintelligence - a world filled with lies, betrayal, and moles burrowing within the FBI, the CIA, the Pentagon, and even the White House.

Good Historical Review through 2006 of CI

Gertz does a good job of documenting failures in Counter Inteligence that has come to light since the Walker Spy ring. He covers Russia, China, Cuba, Iran, and North Korea state sponsored CI well and to a lessor extent terrorist organizations.

US CI needs more HUMINT, but will our politicians allow us to protect the US foreign aggressors while providing the necessary oversight to ensure that CI is not misused for political reasons.

Currently, in fall of 2022, the FBI raided former President Trump's residence searching for Top Secret documents. in 2004 an FBI Agent assigned to the The WMD Commission removed a TS/SCI CIA critical report that was critical of FBI's failure in from a secured document vault. the Agent gave the report to the FBI's head of CI.

The FBI took no action against their own agent for violating document handling of TS material. Where is the balance? Who watches the watchers?
