About this listen

[Contains mature themes] He reached out because a year after the discovery of his affair, they aren’t fighting anymore, but they certainly haven’t moved on. Esther guides them towards a more honest conversation, and a revelation about their communication.

Step into the office of renowned relationship therapist and TED Talk sensation Esther Perel, and listen in as she counsels couples in crisis due to infidelity, sexlessness, loss, and disconnection. The result? Astonishing insights on how they can make love work – and takeaways for you on ways to repair and restore your own relationships.

About Esther:

Esther Perel is recognized as one of today’s most insightful and provocative voices on personal and professional relationships. A celebrated psychotherapist who has helmed a private practice in New York City since 1983, she has over three decades of experience navigating the intricacies of love and desire.

A Note from Esther:

Too often couples live like isolated islands. We think what we’re experiencing in our own relationship is unique to us, and we don’t know that our neighbors and friends are experiencing the same longings, laments, deprivations, and disillusionments in their own lives.

There is no school for relationships, no place for us to learn the tools for rebuilding and repair, to learn to straddle the many contradictions that roil in all of us. Where Should We Begin? Is a way for me to create meaningful, deep, and open conversations. As you listen to these intimate, unscripted sessions between real-life couples, I think you will find the language you’ve been looking for to have conversations with the people in your own life.

Listening to this helped me understand issues in my marriage we've worked on with little success for months. Ms. (Or is it Dr.?) Perel has a way of connecting with the human condition that is so comforting I immediately felt at ease accepting advice and understanding my partners point of view for first time. Absolutely eye opening.

Excellent.

I like it. Good male vs. female prospective on cheating, and to listen to where the other person is coming from.

very relatable views on infidelity

I've never had relationship counselling (or any for that matter) so I can't compare this to anything else. However, if you've ever had any issues communicating with a significant other like I have, you will find this super insightful. I can't relate 100% but some of the overarching themes and feelings are easy to learn from. I'll definitely check out the rest of this series.

Wow. Amazing insights...

You can tell they aren't actors and this is heart felt. Looking forward to the next couple episodes.

I had to listen to this with taking breaks. So moving and so deep, made me cry.. and I don't really have similar experience..

Absolutely mind blowing

I loved how she handled the couple as whole, while working with them as individuals. She's a very excellent counsellor; even when the wife was highly defensive, she handled it with seemingly ease. I feel like it even helped put my own marriage in perspective.

feels very ad lib, but very real life advice.

Hearing the couple in therapy is incredibly insightful. Reading a transcript doesn't convey the emotions compared to an audio recording. Just by the tone of voice, you can hear the love, doubt, pain, and happiness people are experiencing. I think video would be too distracting because I would focus on their looks too much. Audio is a perfect middle ground for this. If you’re a fan of psychology o are curious of how people move through pain toward happiness, this is the series for you.

Incredibly insightful
