Story
The daughter of King Zeus of Olympus lived a small life. The least of his sons and daughters, hers was not the moon, or love, or battle…so low that she should have more rightly been numbered among his demigod children. Kore lingered at the edge of the feast hall, watching the great gods and goddesses revel. Too useless to sprout the grain with the nymphs, she followed her mother, Demeter, through the fields and made the flowers bloom, and she wasn't even too good at that. But what she liked best was when she was allowed to wander the woodlands and towns of the mortal world alone. It was ...

Story
Summoned to Olympus, Hades arrived in time to meet the one who'd plagued his dreams. Used to being alone, he dared not hope that she would want him in return. But the more time he spent with her, the more he began to desire her not only for her beauty or for her skills in battle, but her ability to surprise him. He wanted her, but there was no way that her mother, Demeter, Goddess of the Harvest, would ever allow them to be together. Persephone was drawn to the Lord of the Underworld from the moment they’d met in the garden on Olympus. Frustrated and confused about her fate, Persephone ...

Core is as bright as summer and devoted to her mother, even during their millennia in exile from Olympus. But she craves freedom. From feminist fairies to blood-sucking temptresses, half-human harpies, and protective Vodou goddesses, these are women who go beyond long-haired, smiling stereotypes. Their stories are so powerful, so entrancing, that they have survived for millennia. Lovingly retold and updated, Kate Hodges places each heroine, rebel, and provocateur firmly at the center of their own narrative.

Story
Augustus, Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, and Nero - these are the names history associates with the early Roman Empire. Yet, not a single one of these emperors was the blood son of his predecessor. In this captivating history, a prominent scholar of the era documents the Julio-Claudian women whose bloodline, ambition, and ruthlessness made it possible for the emperors' line to continue. Eminent scholar Guy de la Bedoyere, author of Praetorian, asserts that the women behind the scenes - including Livia, Octavia, and the elder and younger Agrippina - were the true backbone of the dynasty.

About the story itself, I liked the idea of her needing to atone for her actions by providing the antidote. The original version that I had read before made it sound like she just had to prove herself to her mother-in-law before being allowed back into her husband’s presence, earning godship. They were already married and the mother-in-law was butting in. Much of this book is from Eros’ perspective. It makes a lot of sense that this all would come about because he pricked himself with his own hands. In the original, we only know that she is bargained for by a powerful person who chose to remain anonymous. The story is fleshed out a little bit. It ends too soon. There was not even an epilogue. There is a war going on and the story ends as soon as he and she come to an agreement. It’s a bit jarring. I really liked the scenes when Eros and Psyche are talking. It would make a great movie showing the her alone (from her perspective) and from his with both of them together, struggling to keep his distance.
The virtual voice was not as bad as I thought.
