About this listen

Sassy has never been so dangerous.

Question:

What do you get when you take a witty housewife with deep, dark secrets and coop her up in a house with a frustratingly demonic dishwasher and a professional killer who just happens to look like The Gladiator?

Answer:

You get a thrilling tour de force of unexpected action that's peppered throughout with comedic beats and seriously dark undertones. From opening paragraph all the way to the very end, Error Code is a non-stop romp.

And now a word from the main character (a.k.a. the "housewife")...

Umm, did you really just twice refer to me as a housewife, Mr. Blurb? Hmm...I'll deal with you later.

Oh, hi there future fan of mine.

My name is Autumn Winter and I'm a recovering pain in the rear. I also happen to be one heck of a spooky ghost - only probably not in the way you're thinking. And no, my parents weren't flower children - Winter is my name by marriage and yes, I realize it's ridiculously over-seasoned. Years ago when Jack (my husband) proposed to me, my initial response was, "How would you like to be surnamed Ass?" My retort sparked a debate on the differences between Jack Ass and Autumn Winter that dragged out for two weeks. Once he caved and finally agreed that the two formed names were like in concept, then - and only then - did I say yes to his proposal.

That probably tells you a little bit about what you're up against with me. As we go along, you'll no doubt figure out that I am what some may view as sassy, what others may interpret as a fun version of arrogant, and what a chosen few will come to know as dangerous.

I'll leave you with one last thought: if you think the world is perfect and that people and things don't need adjustment, then you and I probably won't see eye-to-eye. But that's okay, because everyone deserves their opinion - of course, mine is the only one that counts.

“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”

Autumn Winter, former CIA agent and frazzled housewife tangles with a wacky dishwasher. The repairman gets more than he bargained for. This broad is just plain crazy and what a twisted sense of humor. So bizarre I couldn't stop laughing !!

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.

Hilarious thriller

Demonic dishwasher, old sparky, winter wonderland and more. Extremely amusing and entertaining. Ludicrous and fun. A romp through insanity and the life of a hidden world. Highly recommend and will look for more urge author and narrator. The narrator gave the story life and depth that was perfect. Entertaining story

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I wasn't sure what to expect from this story since the description is rather convoluted. It took me a little time to follow along but once I was engaged, I completed the story in one listen. Part of what kept me intrigued were the complexities of the story. What does a malfunctioning dishwasher have to do with paid assassins??? Listen to Error Code and find out.

Have you listened to any of Julie McKay and Punch Audio ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Julie McKay delivers a strong, professional performance. There is great emotional range and inflection in her voice that captures the pacing and tension in the story. Greatly enjoyed her performance.

Any additional comments?

A Twisted and Somewhat Wacky Thriller

It starts with a dishwasher and ends with dead bodies. “Error Code” is easily one of the weirdest stories I’ve read/listened to this year. I absolutely disliked the good guys, who aren’t really all that good and I actually felt bad for the bad guys who were definitely very bad. Yet I couldn’t stop reading/listening.

Julie McKay is the narrator for this story and she does a wonderful job. Not only does she have a great sounding voice, she really knows how to make a great story even better.

This is my second story from author R. K. Howard and both of them were outstanding. I really think Mr. Howard is definitely someone to lookout for. Finally, this audio book was provided by the narrator at no cost in exchange for an honest review, courtesy of Audio Book Blast.

Wacky!

humor, satire, thriller, suspense, not-quite-horror
Read on July 01, 2016

The dishwasher made her do it. No, methinks her trolley jumped the tracks some time ago.
Deceptive little book starts simply quirky, then it ramps up big time into Surprise of the Hour! See publisher's blurb for clues, you wouldn't believe out of context examples, anyway. Sick, crazy, or whatever you want to call it, this is one hilarious story!
I was fortunate to have listened to it with Julie McKay audio performing and really nailing it as the perky, looney, protagonist.
I received a copy at my request for free in exchange for an honest review.

‘Look, see, I told you I’m snarky’ got old fast

The description for this made it sound like something I’d enjoy. It started out well enough, the character is supposed to be sassy and dangerous. What killed it for me was instead of having the character’s stream of thought and the story convey how snarky she is, the character kept stopping to stay “Look! look look!!! See what I just did there. I told you I’m sassy/snarky/dangerous!” I would have preferred a more show-don’t-tell approach. In the end, it just made the character get on my nerves and I stopped caring. If you don’t mind that as much, then this story should be entertaining enough.

Narration was good, and changed tones appropriately to get the character across.

Basically, I would have rated this higher if it wasn’t for the characters need to keep saying ‘look, see I told you I’m snarky’ grr.
