This book gives us insight of the spiritual battle that has been playing out in the heavens and reflected here on earth. Starting at the beginning of man's creation, various decisions made and their outcomes. Some of which we might simply label as human nature not giving any further thought to the matter. But, after closer study we can see that every decision that we make either leads us closer to God's ways or we gravitate towards evil, and away from God's love and His ways. Thus, we have been learning evil ever since Adam and his wife partook of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the garden.
Much, if not all, of this has been happening while we were unaware of the evil creeping in and over taking us. And our evil spiritual enemy prefers it that way, that way he can come in unnoticed and undetected. Whether it's a person or a society, evil generally takes hold, slowly and over much time. Starting with a few small compromises and over time taking control of all. As scripture tells us, a little leaven leavens the whole lump, Galatians 5:9.
