About this listen

A Regency Romance Novella

Euphemia Fleet is timid and tiny, on her way to a new life.

Baron Balfour is a giant of a man, wounded by the death of his wife.

Will he terrify her, or will she find the spirit to salve the wounded bear?

Listeners may recognise Miss Fleet from Book 2 of The Fentons, Felicity and the Damaged Reputation, and meet again some beloved friends. If not, they can enjoy Euphemia’s story on its own.

Miss Fleet, on her way to join her dear Felicity and her husband, is still fearing that she may be a burden to them. She meets Baron Balfour on the road, and after an accident to her only gown, finds out that she resembles his dead wife in stature when he offers her a change of clothes.

But the shock of seeing Euphemia in the gown brings on an old illness, and she is forced by her kindly nature to stay with him, though his loud voice and blunt conversation terrifies her.

Something stirs in Euphemia as they become acquainted, and she, who has always dreamed of a respectable home of her own, finds she wants more, much more than his grief could ever give her....

Shocked and appalled, she travels on to her friend. But will the Baron let her be?

(4.5 stars) -happily-ever-after finds Miss Fleet

This is book 3 of The Fentons trilogy, but can stand alone - though at least reading "Felicity and the Damaged Reputation" will enhance the story (and it's a lot of fun besides)

Sweet, timid Euphemia Fleet is finally free from having to endure any more of Lady Ellingham's abuse. She's on her way to live with her very good friend, Felicity, & Felicity's new husband, Lord Sebastian Durant, on their estate.

At first, things are a little confusing, but Lord Balfour has that effect on people, lol. As events transpire, the puzzle pieces fall into place and little by little, we begin to make sense of the whole.

After so many years of misery, Miss Fleet cannot see a happily-ever-after for herself and insists on remaining on the sidelines of life, but those who love her won't allow her to let her opportunity slip past.

The story is delightfully reminiscent of a fairytale & most enjoyable.

*Clean romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic

Cute

Yay for Miss Fleet. This cute story was much too short, which meant the love match felt rushed. But suspended reality helped me sit back and enjoy it as a fun, whirlwind tale, narrated by an excellent reader.

The Romantic Bear

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. The main character has had a rough time, but gets such a happy ending!
I enjoyed the narrator and look forward to the other books in the series.

I received a free copy to enjoy and these are my opinions.

Historical romance

Loved it. Fairy tale historical romance with a hapily ever after ending. This book is sweet and clean and fairly short. Entertaining listen and beautifully narrated by Helen Taylor👍

A Second Chance

I am touched by this story because just the fact both of thepeople are not exactly yong but they both long for LOVE an adventure. Also I love when a story ends with the JOY of a new baby to love, EXCELINT.

Book was too short!

This is the 3rd & last book of a series - and I found it way too short!
I understand that it is about the femaie companion to another young woman who got married in a previous book of the series, but nevertheless, it could have included more details. For example, some background into her former life, from young girl until now, and how she got so shy.
I am glad that Euphemia ended up getting married, but I did not care for the shortness of this story at all. It was as if the author just wanted to finish the series and get it over with. Which was probably the case.

Nice but...

Loved the story, even though there were some events that seemed unlikely. Euphemia getting into a carriage with a total stranger and not being concerned about it....not even for a second ? And then being “conned” into spending the night with this same stranger, Baron or not, with only his employee as a chaperone ? No concerns? Hmmm.
My second issue is the cost for a 2 hour “novella.” This take should either be part of an anthology or provided “free” through Escape.
