About this listen
Have you noticed that President Russell M. Nelson keeps reminding us that the modern temple endowment has “ancient” roots? If you do not know what this means—if you do not have a solid understanding of what was done in the temples of ancient Israel—then you are missing many of the most basic and important aspects of your temple experience.
Unfortunately, it is very common for someone to enter the temple for the first time with little to no understanding of what to expect. And the five-minute rundown someone receives from the stake president hardly changes that. It is also common for people to adopt the philosophy that if they return to the temple often, then time and repetition will teach them what they need to know. For a lot of people, however, that only leads to decades of continually doing the same thing without knowing why or where these things began.
Just as President Nelson says, an understanding of these things can be found in “ancient” times. By using a mix of history and personal experience, Russell McConkie does a beautiful job of making these things personable and easy to understand. Whether you are preparing to receive your own endowment, or you have been attending the temple for many decades, Exodus Endowment will help broaden your understanding of the history and purpose of our modern temple ceremonies.

Putting On Christ is a road map of our heroic journey to spiritual rebirth, also referenced in the holy writ as “the gate” that leads to eternal life. This gate is the first comforter which is received and initiated through a “baptism of fire” and the manifestation of the Lord’s spirit. The Savior said, “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: For many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able” (Luke 13:24). For the true seeker and truth seeker, Putting On Christ may prove a valuable guide for the journey.

These places appear more real; they are made of matter, some of very fine and pure matter, and exist in time and space. Lynn, as a man of faith, unites in a single theory, scientific evidence and sources from the standard works of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to account for the form and structure of all of God’s worlds, planets, and suns.

Story
Prepare not only to go to the temple but to be in it as well. Temples are filled with ancient symbols that point directly to the Atonement. These symbols are all around - in scriptures, cultural motifs, and architectural details. C. Robert Line, doctor in sociology of religion, offers help to those wanting to make sense of certain aspects of the temple and the endowment. By showing how these symbols all point back to Christ’s Atonement, he aims to enrich and enliven the worship experience that church members can and should expect when they attend the house of the Lord.

Story
In recent years, Christians everywhere are rediscovering the Jewish roots of their faith. Every year at Easter time, many believers now celebrate Passover meals (known as Seders) seeking to understand exactly what happened at Jesus' final Passover, the night before he was crucified. Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist shines fresh light on the Last Supper by looking at it through Jewish eyes.

Story
Most Christians are familiar with the Apostle Paul's teaching that Christ is the "Bridegroom" and the Church is the "Bride." But what does this really mean? And what would ever possess Paul to compare the death of Christ to the love of a husband for his wife? If you would have been at the Crucifixion, with Jesus hanging there dying, is that how you would have described it? How could a first-century Jew like Paul, who knew how brutal Roman crucifixions were, have ever compared the execution of Jesus to a wedding?

Gripped by the tale of a Messiah whose blood we drink and body we eat, the genre-defying author Emmanuel Carrère revisits the story of the early Church in his latest work. With an idiosyncratic and at times iconoclastic take on the charms and foibles of the Church fathers, Carrère ferries listeners through his "doors" into the biblical narrative. Once inside, he follows the ragtag group of early Christians through the tumultuous days of the faith's founding.

Nephi puts us on notice in his very first sentence that The Book of Mormon was written by temple worshippers and for temple worshippers. He and the other prophets of The Book of Mormon, who called themselves the visionary men and the peaceable followers of Christ, knew and practiced a mystery, an ordinance by which they ascended through the temple and entered into the presence of God. This ordinance was embodied in a dramatic representation of the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Eden and their return to it, in which initiates played the roles of Adam and Eve or their descendants.

Story
Joseph Smith taught that knowledge is the power of salvation. With that in mind, one might wonder: What was the purpose for introducing temple ordinances to the Church? Are they simply arcane rituals to be memorized? Do they have some inherent magic necessary for redemption? Or are they rather intended to help the Saints gain knowledge, particularly knowledge which saves? And if imparting knowledge is their purpose, then what is the Lord trying to teach us? Once we have received the ordinances is that enough or is more required to complete our endowment?

Prepare not only to go to the temple but to be in it as well. Temples are filled with ancient symbols that point directly to the Atonement. These symbols are all around - in scriptures, cultural motifs, and architectural details. C. Robert Line, doctor in sociology of religion, offers help to those wanting to make sense of certain aspects of the temple and the endowment. By showing how these symbols all point back to Christ’s Atonement, he aims to enrich and enliven the worship experience that church members can and should expect when they attend the house of the Lord.
