Heinz Sührig (1925-2004) meldete sich mit 17 freiwillig zur Deutschen Kriegsmarine. Er war der jüngste an Bord von U 968, wo er an seinem 20. Geburtstag infolge einer Explosion in der Zentrale erblindete.1988 verfasste er Texte über seine 3 Jahre an Bord, die seine Tochter Rita J. Sührig 32 Jahre später bearbeitete und mit Hintergrundinformationen ergänzte.
