A lost legacy puts one of England’s great families in mortal peril …

Lazen Castle, home to the much-envied Lazender family, is a house under siege. The heir is abroad, pursuing his own adventures, so the family estates fall under the control of his sister, Campion. Meanwhile, The Fallen Angels, a powerful and dangerous secret society in Europe, need the Lazender fortune to bring their rebellion to England.

Surrounded by deceit, Campion draws ever closer to a subtle trap that has been laid for her, her only hope being Gypsy – her brother’s aloof horse-master, whose loyalties have always been uncertain.

In this powerful blend of passion, adventure and intrigue, the second chronicle of the great Lazender family comes to life.

I wanted to give this 0 stars. I disliked the main heroine character so much that I was rooting for the evil side to do devilish things to her ... The previous book in the series, A Crowning Mercy, is only a little better ... but not by much ... I listened to the all of both of them over 30 odd gruelling hours ...in complete disbelief that this could come from the same writer of Sharpe and Uhtred, son of Uhtred, son of Uhtred ... the writing in this one IS REALLY BAD ... I mean it's dreadful ... the only thing that cheered me up is that even I could write a book this bad ... I could see through the plot line about half way through ... completely predictable as well. Did I mention this is bad ... I mean I love Bernard Cornwell's trashy books ... I have binged on the Warlord Chronicles, The Last Kingdom, The Sharpe series at around one a week for the last year ... but this book is from another world in terms of just being plain bad ...

2nd Mills and Boon novel by Bernard Cornwell ...
