About this listen

Born of bone and flesh against Odin's law, she was stolen as a toddler. She was manipulated, trained, and molded into one of Valhalla's fiercest warriors. Cast into battle alongside the Norse gods, would she become the last surviving Shield Maiden following Ragnarok, the seemingly endless battle? This is a tale of her younger years.

I have to admit I didn't know much about Viking Mythology (other than the basics) but I learned a lot and enjoyed this story. Faolan seems like a spunky girl from the very beginning and we follow her as she grows. Emilie J. Howard is an author whose work I really like, and I'm sure the other books in this particular series will not disappoint. The narrator did a pretty good job with different voices - not the best, but certainly not the worst I've heard.

Enjoyable and Informative

I've listened to other work by EMILIE J. HOWARD and I like her writing. FAOLAN: THE YOUNGER YEARS was a good story but hard to follow because of the narration. I think a female reader would've been better for this, especially if this is the beginning of a new series. It may be better to read the physical book.

NICHOLAS SANTASIER'S narration was fairly monotone and with misplaced voice inflections it made this hard to follow. He has a deeper voice and his female impressions didn't resonate well. I suspect he would be good in a different setting using his natural voice. I felt lost throughout most of the story.
