Publisher's summary

Felicia Cartright, a petite blonde who is one of the most popular students at the Wellington School for Girls, has a surprising inclination toward mysteries. If a mysterious situation arises it either makes its way to Felicia, or Felicia somehow finds it. Though this is a bit trying for her happy-go-lucky roommate, Joan Bailey, it does prevent life from becoming monotonous. When Felicia lends money to a street beggar in exchange for his old violin, the girls are thrown headlong into an ever-deepening mystery. Now everyone seems to be after that old violin that appears to be almost worthless. What is the real story behind the old violin, and what secrets does it hold? Will they ever get to the bottom of this mystery?

She started forward. "Now excuse me, I'm going to join my friends."
"You're coming with me!" he snarled. His hand snaked out suddenly and tightened on her wrist.
For an instant Felicia almost cried out in pain. Then she remembered something they had been taught in one of the gym classes at Wellington. She grasped his wrist with her other hand and gave a sudden jerk. She caught him off balance and jerked him off his feet. He went sprawling into the heavy wood display case with such force that it staggered him.
"Joan!" Felicia screamed, dashing frantically down the aisle of the museum. "Mrs. Halverson!" Felicia's shrill cry went reverberating through the rooms of the museum.
She dashed around the comer, her heels clacking a wild staccato to her cries. The very suddenness of her scream seemed to freeze guards and visitors. Even Joan, Mrs. Halverson and Claudia stared as she came running to them.
