About this listen
Discover all the secrets and countless benefits of fermentation today!
This audiobook is intended to introduce anyone to the art of fermenting food at home. It is specifically geared toward true beginners.
Commercial production of prepared foods causes much more harm than good and greatly reduces any nutritional content in food. Not only do the processes themselves destroy nutritional content, but most food manufacturers add a cocktail of harmful chemicals that certainly are not healthy for our bodies.
Yes, food fermentation at home is an art, and some of it is trial and error, but we always live and learn. We can correct many issues on the fly or make notes of what to try next time. When we can decide what goes into our bodies and make conscious decisions to put the best stuff in us, our bodies will improve in overall health. This audiobook is designed to be a springboard to bigger and better fermentations. It will give you a place to start and to hone your skills. After all, isn't that what any good book is for? To enlighten and enrich our lives in some way?
With all that being said, listen to the book and try the recipes. You will see what I mean about flexibility and health benefits. Happy fermenting, friends!
Inside you'll find:
- What fermented foods are and why they are so good for you!
- How fermentation was used in different cultures throughout history.
- How to make base recipes such as kefir, whey, brine, sauerkraut, etc.
- Information about fermentation and digestion.
- Step-by-step instructions for safe and effective fermentation.
- The top health reasons to eat probiotic foods.

We live in a world of seeds. From our morning toast to the cotton in our clothes, they are quite literally the stuff and staff of life, supporting diets, economies, and civilizations around the globe. Just as the search for nutmeg and the humble peppercorn drove the Age of Discovery, so did coffee beans help fuel the Enlightenment and cottonseed help spark the Industrial Revolution. And from the fall of Rome to the Arab Spring, the fate of nations continues to hinge on the seeds of a Middle Eastern grass known as wheat.

Story
Sourdough bread fueled the labor that built the Egyptian pyramids. The Roman Empire distributed free sourdough loaves to its citizens to maintain political stability. More recently, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, sourdough bread baking became a global phenomenon as people contended with being confined to their homes and sought distractions from their fear, uncertainty, and grief. In Sourdough Culture, environmental science professor Eric Pallant shows how throughout history, sourdough bread baking has always been about survival.

This was WOW!
I really enjoyed listening to FERMENTATION FOR BEGINNERS. There was a lot of information packed into this audiobook. It is well worth it. I've wanted to learn how to do this for a long time now and this is a great starting point for me.
It goes over microbes, probiotics, non-GMO's, and other essential information anyone should know or learn. It tells you what certain foods do and how they break down and gives tons of examples and recipes such as kimchi, sauerkraut, pickles, etc. It tells you how to do yogurt, mayo, granola, rice, ice cream, and so much more.
I've been wanting to do pickles forever and didn't know how and now I most likely can. I want to try the granola as well. I'm really excited about this book written by ELLA MARIE. This is a healthy way of preparing food. I've listened to it twice now and will again.
KRISTI BURNS did a wonderful job narrating this audiobook. She breezed right through it. She spoke clearly and had an upbeat positive tone. This was an overall great audiobook filled with lots of goodness.

Author did a great job presenting the basics while still making the subject interesting and did not go in for the oversell of do this if you want to be healthy that is so hard to avoid these days.
Which scene was your favorite?
No scenes but I did like hearing the explanation ofwhat fermentation is in a simple straightforward way while giving a cultural history on the subject.

Very comprehensive guide to fermenting your food
With fermented foods becoming quite the thing now this guide will be invaluable to those wanting to make their own.
This book contains all the scientific stuff for those who want to know, which, I admit, I skipped through and there are plenty of recipes. Thorough descriptions of both equipment and ingredients necessary for each recipe are provided, followed by clear method instructions. If you are happy listening to recipes rather than reading them, then you will be happy with this. Just a bit too much of the scientific stuff for me.
Loved the yoghurt recipe thanks
Narration

Short, Sweet and to the Point
Would you listen to Fermentation for Beginners again? Why?
Yes, the information was helpful and I still have many recipes yet to try!
Who was your favorite character and why?
I would say it's a toss up between brewer's yeast and yogurt cultures :)
Which character – as performed by Kristi Burns – was your favorite?
Ok, so it's a recipe book and doesn't really lend itself to characters in that way.
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Fermentation for Beginners?
I intend to try to work more fermented foods into my diet and to hopefully make some of them myself.
Any additional comments?
I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBlast dot com. Also, as a small point of nitpicking, it didn't really make sense to include the page numbers listed for the table of contents in the audiobook edition, but the table of contents wasn't long so it wasn't a big deal.

Pretty basic..
What did you like best about Fermentation for Beginners? What did you like least?
Basic information. I've been fermenting kefir, kombucha and viili for some time and I must say that did not find anything useful in this book. But may be useful for beginners.
