Publisher's summary

Joining us at Audible Studios is Scottish comedian Fern Brady.

Born and raised in West Lothian, Brady pursued a career in journalism after university, though always had an interest in comedy. After reaching the final of "So You Think You're Funny" at the Edinburgh Fringe, Brady launched her stand-up career and has since appeared on panel shows such as 8 Out of 10 Cats, Live at the Apollo and Channel 4's Taskmaster.

Brady knew she was autistic as a teenager, but was told she couldn't be, as she was good at making eye contact and had a boyfriend. After finally getting a diagnosis in 2021, Brady has now penned her autobiography, Strong Female Character, which details the struggles she faced growing up with autism.

We spoke to Fern Brady about misdiagnosis, why being a stripper was a decent part time job, and her worries about how being open about autism might affect her career.

Absolutely brilliant

This was a wonderful interview, and it certainly whetted my eagerness to listen to her audiobook! It's frustrating that I have to wait three months for a book that's already available in the UK.

Couldn’t Put it Down

I devoured this book. As someone with ADHD, it’s a feat for a book to hold my attention for hours. I was really fascinated by Fern’s experiences and I found it comforting and refreshing to hear another woman speak about how confusing social interaction can be.

Fern Brady

What a fascinating interview with Fern Brady. It’s so frustrating that this book is being released FOUR MONTHS LATER in the US than in the UK.
