About this listen

Fighting God is a firebrand manifesto from one of the most recognizable faces of atheism. In his audiobook, Silverman - a walking, talking atheist billboard known for his appearances on Fox News - discusses the effectiveness, ethics, and impact of the in-your-face-atheist who refuses to be silent.

Silverman argues that religion is more than just wrong: it is malevolent and does not deserve our respect. It is our duty to be outspoken and do what we can to bring religion down. Examining the mentality, methods, and issues facing the firebrand atheist, Silverman presents an overwhelming argument for firebrand atheism and reveals:

  • All religion is cafeteria religion and all agnostics are atheists.
  • American society grants religion a privileged status, despite the intentions of the Founding Fathers.
  • Christian politicians have adversely (and un-Constitutionally) affected our society with regard to science, health, women's rights, and gay rights.
  • The notion of "atheist Jews" is a lie forced on us by religion.
  • It is not "Islamophobia" to observe dangerous teachings and disproportionate violence in Islam.
  • Atheists are slowly but surely winning the battle.

Fighting God is a provocative, unapologetic audiobook that takes religion to task and will give inspiration to non-believers and serve as the ultimate answer to apologists.

I definitely like the ideas behind this book.

I suggest this book for anyone looking for ideas and reasoning behind a belief system that does not make sense.

A necessary book, unfortunately

This books gives many examples how and where religious unequality is part of mainstream thinking or how attempts to do so are challenged and need to be challenged.

For me the strongest parts are those when cases are described without too much outrage (although they deserve it, but that's I guess the firebrand style, he promotes.)

He gets a good balance, so it was educating to listen to the last minute (something other books to the topic didn't achieve)

Sign me up

David Silverman's performance for reading this book was fantastic. You can tell by his performance is that he is very passionate about what he says on the subject had done his research. I find the things you brought up within the subject matter to be evident within my life throughout my life up to this point.

It has given me the confidence that I can now more openly admit: I am an atheist

Loud and Proud!

I loved it from beginning to end, great that David Silverman narrated it. It has made me want to be a more active fire brand atheist.

Excellent!

This book really gives you things to contemplate as you are evaluating beliefs or YOUR beliefs. I am studying belief and non-belief and coming at it from a un-indoctrinated perspective (no religious upbringing, no good or bad discussions about religion) and I am looking at multiple angles and ways of looking at beliefs and tradition. David Silverman makes a lot of sense here and anyone picking and choosing a religion would benefit from looking at all angles instead of easily picking the religion they were raised with, the one their parents are, the geographic place of birth, or any other easy-way-out to picking a belief system, or not. This book is one that is a must, regardless of where you land in choosing what to believe.

Silverman delivers powerful truth

In addition to simply laying out a case for atheism, Silverman is not shy about admitting when he was wrong, such as his admission that Judaism is just another religion and not also a race for example. This serves not only to humanize him but also to give credence to his message because it repeatedly expresses that the moment he is proven incorrect about the existence of a deity, he will no longer be an atheist.

The book exposes many of the evils of major religions, including the fatalism inherent in Hinduism, which is overlooked by most of us in the West who have primarily co-opted its yoga and tantric sex and its environmentalism and left its caste system alone (we have our own, thankyouverymuch). It explains why these religions fear equality, especially when they enjoy such privilege in Europe and the USA. Silverman goes into detail about his fight against the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, a shell of which we can now see floating around as we see Kim Davis still employed while hatefully and contemptfully denying full rights to LGBT+ legal adults in Rowan County, Kentucky who wish to marry and Christian moms marching through Target stores screaming about their restroom policies.

This is a powerful and important book.

Not just about fighting God, but fighting inequality!

A fresh perspective of how damaging religions are to society by encouraging inequality, bigotry and undermining or using the government for their own gain. Sometimes subtlety sometimes not. If you want to do something about it this book is a good starting point!
