Behind the barricade in the entrance hall of Hornet's ranch, the remaining defenders — now numbering just nine — shake hands and say their last goodbyes. As they look into each other's faces, they see tired, haggard features but no signs of regret. Hornet implores his fiancée to retreat to one of the upper rooms and hide there, but Simona, smiling, only looks back with silent adoration.
