About this listen

In addition to government archives, many original colonial documents have been digitized by university collaborations and can now be found on the internet for FREE. With more digitized documents, it is also becoming possible to do genealogical research from home rather than traveling to ancestorial locations to look up original hard copy records most of which are typically kept on file by county within the state of their origin.

The author of this book is neither a professional historian nor a professional genealogist but has extensive expertise in using computer tools and analyzing data. In addition to providing both historical and environmental background, she shares methods of discovery about early American ancestors by taking a broad approach to the people of a very focused area of Virginia. The result is discovery of many of the how’s and why’s of the time and relate it to genealogy. Of particular interest is the immigration of French Huguenots to the New Kent County area of Virginia before the mass transit of French refugees to Manakintown.

This compilation is intended as a time saving resource that not only lays out the world of American progenitors but provides information and methods others can use to do online research of their Colonial Virginia ancestors.

Amazon Review of author’s previous book on genealogy:
*****
“Lynn's work really helped in making some of the connections that I needed in my research. Her attention to detail is overwhelming. Not just her information on the DePriest Line, but a total understanding of life at that time, how the settlers first came to this land and where they settled. The overview of the different families at that time would be a valuable resource for anyone doing genealogy of the area.”
Jim DePriest, March 30, 2024.
