About this listen

It's ten years after the end of WWII when Camille Winters accepts a position as the only colored secretary in the office at Hargrove and Chase, an advertising agency on Madison Avenue in the mid-1950's. As the dashing young owner and senior partner Kenneth Hargrove secretly becomes more obsessed with Camille, he calls in a favor to find information about Camille's long-lost love who died in the war. But instead of the gesture bringing closure, the ghosts from the past suddenly come back to haunt her, putting her hard-won successful career in jeopardy. 20th Century Historical Historical Fiction Multicultural

The story was compelling and hard felt in some respects. But I can't fathom why either character took so long to commit. And then a mother leaves her child ,,, created out of love? That's preposterous! The voices were emotionally sterile.

Beautifully written. It’s hard to write these but Donley does so effortlessly with real characters readers can empathize with.

And time again—a must read if you want a love story of yesterday

A sweet book, but I have read another one by the same author and there's always seems to be a rushed ending and things that just don't make sense and too many details left out so it's like you've dropped a book and half a dozen pages are falling out so I think although I enjoyed this book, I probably wouldn't read another one from the author again.
