About this listen

Beautiful Caroline Crale was convicted of poisoning her husband, yet there were five other suspects: Philip Blake (the stockbroker) who went to market; Meredith Blake (the amateur herbalist) who stayed at home; Elsa Greer (the three-time divorcee) who had roast beef; Cecilia Williams (the devoted governess) who had none; and Angela Warren (the disfigured sister) who cried ‘wee wee wee’ all the way home.

It is sixteen years later, but Hercule Poirot just can’t get that nursery rhyme out of his mind…

I enjoyed this book a lot. The language used is beautiful and descriptive, and the story engaging and well imagined. I also very much liked that Hugh Frasier reads it, as he reads it in a calm and nicely paced way while still making every character distinctive.

Great book!

A regular old fashioned "Who Done It?" Poirot is a little more low profile, and still solves the problem. The other 5 star listen is a play Spiders Web.. Hugh Fraser gives his usual good reader performance in this. The plot is maybe a little contrived, however it does suit the nature of the mystery.

If only all Agatha's books were as good.
