 Ochenta años después de la muerte de Alberto Yarini, ocurrida por motivos pasionales en 1910, en el barrio de San Isidro, un joven historiador visita la tumba del legendario chulo para cumplir la promesa contraída con un amigo. Un misterioso búcaro que siempre tendrá flores frescas sobre el sepulcro del proxeneta, le estimula a emprender una investigación en la que afloran vivencias de la vida del protagonista Luis Fernández Figueroa, y su relación amistosa con el mítico proxeneta.Yarini fue un chulo, pero estudió en prestigiosas instituciones de nivel superior en Cuba y en Los Estados Unidos, era de modales refinados, y provenía de una familia de clase media alta a la vez de ser violento y profano por vocación. Tenía aptitud para la política, un fuerte sentimiento patriótico, y un sentido de justicia social que le ganó el respeto y afecto de las diversas capas sociales en la Habana de su época. Ayudaba a los pobres del barrio de San Isidro con dinero de su propio bolsillo y mantenía a varias negras viejas retiradas de la prostitució.

If you could sum up Flores para una leyenda: Yarini, el Rey de San Isidro (Spanish Edition) in three words, what would they be?

Tuve la ocasión de leer el libro y ahora en audiolibro. Fascinante historia. La recomiendo por el aporte al conocimiento de una historia prácticamente desconocida, sobre el impacto que produjo en la vida social habanera, en el barrio de San Isidro, uno de los personajes reales mas destacados a principios del XX. Con una respetable personalidad, Yarini hizo historia no solo en la vida folclórica de la ciudad, sino que incluso se sirvió de la política y la vida social.

Recomiendo 100% este libro para todos los que quieran conocer sobre un personaje legendario de la historia popular cubana. Excelente investigación y narración!!
