Publisher's summary

What does it mean to be the executioner? Is it the struggle between good and evil and the fulfillment of a gypsy legend? For Robin, it's simply another day in the park in downtown L.A. It's killing the undead as she attempts to juggle life and love the same as any other ordinary woman would. That is until she meets Gordon, a crazed demon with a conscience. Now she must battle an ancient evil far more powerful then she's ever faced before or risk losing the world to Lilith, the mother of all vampires. Will she save mankind? Or, will we all follow the ashes of destruction as we burn in hell?

Any additional comments?

If you are looking for a captivating story that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Then this is it!
Demonic elements,Vampire’s and a whole lot of action.

This is the first time I have had the pleasure to read and listen to Kindra Sowder’s work.
I have to say I am impressed

Her characters are well developed. The story line itself is slightly on the dark side but not over the top.

I will certainly be following this author's work in the future.

Couldn't put it down.

Now I usually only leave a review if the book was horrible. This book though, other then being overly descriptive was pretty good. looking forward to listening to more of Robin's adventure.

action-packed, emotional tenseness

This one is a quick and short read with demonic and vampire elements in it. It was fast-paced.

Set in LA, Robin, the lead character is introduced as one of the “executioners” who slays the vampires; Robins role is to fight the evils released upon the earth. The story also introduces Beth, Robin’s best friend who can foresee the future and knows what Robin is, yet she stays with her and helps her in the fight of good vs evil. While doing her job as an Executioner, Robin meets Gordon who is a demon with a conscience and who is in love with Robin at first sight. As Gordon sets aside his demonic ways for Robin, she now has to choose between evil and good leading to an encounter with Lilith, the queen/god of vampires. Robin has been slaying vampires, demons and children of Lilith, all of whom are the prime reasons for chaos in this post-apocalyptic world.

The characters were well developed. Lilith was quite creepy and scary, and while Robin was not as much of a badass as one would think, she was realistic - she was a woman trying to live a normal life while also being an executioner of vampires. While she may come off as whiny to some, she is a strong character.

The writing is very smooth and Kindra Sowder the story and characters together. The undisturbed flow in the language kept me hooked waiting for the action to happen. Even after being a little dark, it is not at all depressing. Sowder has done a great job in developing the characters given the short length of the book and not wasting time in introducing children of Lilith but instead focusing on Lilith herself.

Narration by Sophie Amoss was just too good, usually when there is a female character in the book, the narration gets high-pitched at times but this one was very nice to listen to. The voice-overs for Robin and Lilith were perfect with no problems in production.

Anyone who loves urban fantasy, vampire-kind-paranormal, dark stuff will surely love this one. The action-packed, emotional tenseness of the book is excellent.

Definitely one to watch

Nestled somewhere between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a Sherrilyn Kenyon novel, Kindra Sowder's tale of a young woman doing battle with the undead is a refreshing take on vampires in urban fantasy. Sophie Amos breathes life into Robin's struggle against ancient evil in her duty as The Executioner. The story lulls a bit in the middle, but receives an ample amount of fresh blood (forgive the pun) to drive it through the climax and into the resolution. It's definitely worth a listen, and a strong start to what looks to be a great trilogy.

Amazing Tale

Would you consider the audio edition of Follow the Ashes to be better than the print version?

Yes, simply because of the narration by Sophie Amoss was just about dead on to what I thought the main character would sound like.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Follow the Ashes?

Without giving anything away, I think that the most memorable scene is when Robin gets taken to meet with the main villain.

What does Sophie Amoss bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Sophie Amoss brings the right kind of tone and sorrow when the hard moments for Robin are experienced.

If you could rename Follow the Ashes, what would you call it?

I wouldn't.

Demon huntress vampire slayer truth seeker

The narrator in bodies the characters and story. She delivers Kindra's Robin with truth and depth. This world the author provide is not sunshine and flowers, but it isn't Dante's inferno. Glimpses of where the first installment will lead to me is a tease for each of the next set of books. Don't get comfortable with what you think will happen. Just join the journey.
