About this listen

Detective Danielle Delacroiux is one kick-ass detective with the Généreux PD, and she's got a murder on her hands.

By all accounts, Crease Martin was nothing but a homeless drunk and a lousy informant, but Dani counted him as one of hers. Now she'll stop at nothing to find his murderer. With a red silk handkerchief under the body as her first clue, Dani wants a quick break.

When a handsome stranger practically strolls up to the crime scene, Dani can't help but notice his expensive Italian suit, red silk tie, and empty breast pocket. Could he be who she's looking for?

Dani is less than impressed when Mr. Tall, Dark, and Yummy is introduced as the newest lawyer in town, and even worse, he's another of the Charbonnet offspring. The deadly feud between the Delacroiux and Charbonnet families goes way back, and there is one thing she knows without a doubt. If Hawk Charbonnet committed this crime, she'll be damned if his connections will do him any good. She'll happily lock his arrogant ass in jail for the rest of his life. Which would be a shame, because she has to admit, it is a fine-looking ass.

Grown up Romeo and Juliet with a side of thriller

This is such a great engaging read. The romance is combustible, meaning there is not a lot of time between the first meeting and smexy sheet time. While the feelings are rather quick, I loved seeing them fall.

Dani is kind of a tough chick, ya gotta be to be a detective in the same precinct as you father. Her no nonsense attitude rocks! It is great that she can fall for a tough gut but stay true to her independent spirit.

Hawk is yummy, most bad boys are, there is just something about them. He is mostly reformed, which puts him as a sort of good guy. I am fine with the grey area. For such a toughie, he has no trouble laying his heart bare.

The smexy time has just enough detail to keep things naughty. Plenty of hot and heavy time for these two, serious lust at first sight. The romance is heavily built on that chemistry and leans to more feelings.

The overall story was engaging and dynamic at times. The great thing about it is the mixed narrative. You get the leads POV, but you also get a host of other supporting characters, including the bad guy. Definitely makes for a more rounded tale. Some very intricate relationships, the story keeps you on your toes and guessing!

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Saskia Maarleveld, who is excellent. Her energy and pace really make the read move through the action and smexy scenes. She has a delightful tone that worked for all the characters. All the voices were consistent and distinct throughout the read. I would love top hear more or her work as she added to the enjoyment of the read.

I wasn't sure I would enjoy this cop and bad boy romance, but I really was swept away with the leads. Great story telling and a nice little thriller mixed into the romance.
