Critic reviews

''Could hardly be bettered.'' ( Sunday Times)
''Its strength comes from the speed of its narrative, its vivid creation of tensions and its power in handling descriptions of action.'' ( Evening Standard)
''Action sustained at a high pitch. From the outset there is a feeling of suspense: a problem that can only be solved by action involving danger and demanding courage...an insistently gripping tale.'' ( Scotsman)

I really enjoyed this audible book as much as the movie. I believe the narrator did an excellent job capturing this book.

Alistair MacLean brings back Mallory, Andrea, and Miller for another impossible mission. The twists and turns keep you guessing and the suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat.

One of his very best

Knowing the movie makes it easier to follow the story, but also knowing the movie makes you have to focus on the chapters closely.
Fun read. I'm looking forward to the rest of Alistair McLean's books.

Great version and Jonathan Oliver does a great job in portraying the voices of the the individual characters

Much better than the movie the ending was thrilling but other parts were slow in developing

Which character – as performed by Jonathan Oliver – was your favorite?

Miller and Mallory you could visualize from the movie

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had a tear in my eye at the end of the audiobook

Any additional comments?

Alistair Maclean always treats the German soldiers with respect and as a note he died in Frankfort, Germany. The old schoolteacher was in the Royal Navy during WWII. He entered a contest about the sea and won. He moved to Switzerland because of the high taxes at home. Really admire his work

Better than the Guns of Navarone
