About this listen

Books 4, 5, and 6 in the USA Today best-selling Franki Amato Mysteries: Campari Crimson, Galliano Gold, and Marsala Maroon.

When Franki Amato leaves her cheating ex and erratic job as a rookie cop in Austin, Texas, she hopes for a quieter existence at her best friend Veronica’s New Orleans PI firm, Private Chicks. But, life in the Big Easy is anything but quiet. Or easy. Her furnished apartment resembles an old French brothel, and her aging ex-stripper landlady has some rather odd policies.

Meanwhile, Franki is hired to investigate a series of bizarre murders in a creepy cemetery, a haunted steamboat, and a historic Italian grocery store, and her work puts her in contact with colorful local characters, like voodoo mambos, people who live as vampires, and eccentric jazz musicians, not to mention killers. While she’s on the case, her meddlesome Sicilian nonna tries to crack an ongoing mystery - how to get her married, and pronto - and she might just be Franki’s biggest nemesis.

Love this series!!!

I have really enjoyed listening to this series. There are a few times I would like to strangle Frankie but beyond that it is awesome. The best part is the narration. I truly don’t know if I’ve ever heard better! Also love the bits of history threaded through the stories. Do yourself a favor and order it up!!!

I went through all of the books in the series in a matter of days! I love everything about them. And, I was literally laughing out loud so hard that my kids thought there was something wrong because of the tears in my eyes! I can’t wait for the next!

3 Part review!

🍷Compari Crimson ~ Ya had me at vampire! Overall fun and thrilling book! (10 stars)

Everyone who goes to the French Quarter wants to experience something unique and a vampire club is definitely it!

This was one of my fave books in the series! Lots of twists n turns!
I loved the way Franki went after the bad guys - fearless!

The only part (again) that I didn't care for was the non- relationship part of the book with her non- friend Brad, sign and snore! He treats her like a "friend" ...they never see each other, hold hands, kiss have sex - Zippo! BORING! Get rid of Brad!
Franki is extremely self centered and only worries about herself and eating! (Hence the Melissa McCarthy type character)... zaney, goofy, always eating a bag of donuts while washing them down with a stiff drink or three! Alcoholic? WOWZA! At times I laughed out loud while other moments were rather cringeworthy! Perhaps the author is trying to show us how F-d up the main character is?

Overall ...fun and thrilling book! I adore how Madeline creates all of the voices! AHHH Sensational!

~Namaste mystery lovers!

🛎Galliano Gold Review! (1 Star)

Sorry Franki fans but in my opinion this was THE WORST book out of the series. I was highly disappointed! EKKK!

Franki acts extra dopey in this book. She allow Ruth and the other characters walk all over her - but she try's to act tough when dealing with the bad guys (makes no sense!)

Ruth literally clubs Franki over the head on a steakout and could have killed her but Franki doesn't stand up for herself nor does she put Ruth in her place! UHH! Cringe worthy!

In the end, Franki has a "run in" with Ruth over dinner and basically allows Ruth to poison her! WHAA?? Preposterous!(Franki is literally sitting a few inches from her plate of food and doesn't notice Ruth tampering with it.) How about her boyfriend Brad -who's also about 6 inches away and doesn't notice Ruther tampering with the soup!?? Then Franki cant "speak"!? ...ridiculous!

The overall stale theme to this book deals with Nonna hiring Franki's detective firm to help find out why Franki is still single - I'm sorry but this was really reallyyyyyy BAD and makes no sense!! The writing in this book makes the characters seem like rubes!
In the beginning Franki wants to call Detective Sullivan for help with the "new case" then finds out (again) that he's using her since he is a rogue cop. But she knows how he is, so why would she want to call him in the first place!? She is obviously still in love with him! UHHH!! Again, Franki is 30 but acts 12! Scenes like this are distracting to the mystery edge of the story and angersome but it dumbs down the characters that I once loved!!

I was excited to learn more about the paddlewheel adventure and wish the author would have dove into ghost ship excitement instead of making up nonsense! It just wasn't working for me amigos! Franki kept "walking" into trouble as if she was 12 years old and clueless! Ruth's character needed to be CUT by throwing her in jail for assault! Seriously - how are the things Ruth did to Franki considered comedy??? Horrendous!

Hard pass on Galliano Gold!

🔮Marsala Maroon -

I was hoping for a better storyline with this book. The theme is "grocery stores", which doesn't make me swoon for mystery! The beginning is very slow. Lots of family drama with Franki's Mom and Grandmother running all over her as usual and basically planning her wedding. UHH ...dreadful!

Franki needs to GROW A PAIR and tell her unhinged family off once and for all! Her mom, dad and coo-coo Nonna need to be put in their places -like last week! Franki and Brad should simply elope, and leave her parochial/ lunatic family in the rearview! It's realllyyyyy difficult to try and enjoy a good mystery story with this autocratic family chomping at the bit!

The only saving Grace's in this book are ....Veronica's sweetness and clear focus voice of reason, Glenda's endearing comedy and suavè, Vassil, and a few other side characters that try to balance out Franki's "Batshit crazy" familia! I adored the Voodoo aspects of this storyline!

Sorry Franki lovers but when her Mom and Grandma dig in and are just plain nasty I personally don't find this to be comedy, but rather distasteful and 100% cringeworthy!

I keep hoping the next book will be better - like the Plantation and Vampire books! AHHH! The search goes on mystery lovers! I really am rooting for Franki and hope she can overcome her demons, aka:Family!

Big Easy Hijinks

The stories in this box set are well written and funny but I will admit that I had a little problem with book 6. I loved the stories because truthfully if Italian mothers and grandmothers are this nossy and controlling I would move out and not tell them where I lived. The books in this set have different storyline the author is always able to bring in the story of Frankie family trying to get her married. I highly recommend this set if you like murder, suspense, witches, vampires and a pushy Italian family. I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review that I give here freely of my own volition.

Love the story and its well written and fun

my only issue with this book is the main character has no common sense so it's a little irksome.

Franki Amato Mysteries Box Set: Books 4-6

Franki Amato is back and as a PI, she’s got her hands full. Not only does she have a full load of cases, but she’s also got to deal with a fiancé, an interesting group of friends and coworkers, and of course her meddling family.

I do enjoy Traci Andrighetti’s fun cozy mystery series. There are times when I’m not a fan of how the characters are behaving, but it keeps things interesting, and I’ll be back for more.

Madeline Mrozek did a great job with the narration. She has a great understanding of the characters and really brings out their personalities.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
