About this listen

Explore how FDR went from almost dying at birth to leading the United States through the Great Depression and World War II

As the 32nd president of the United States of America, Franklin Delano Roosevelt is a common household name in both his home country and the world. Known as the man who led the United States through the Great Depression and World War II, Roosevelt was a leader and a statesman, a scholar, and a politician.

Franklin D. Roosevelt is the only president to have served for three consecutive terms and voted in for a fourth, a fact that allows him to stand out among the long list of American presidents.

Outside of his role as president of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt lived a full life. He was a father and a son, a husband and a career man. He was a bank officer and attended prestigious universities - Harvard University and Columbia University Law School - before practicing law. Additionally, he served as vice president for the Fidelity and Deposit Company. Perhaps most famously, Roosevelt served as governor of New York and president of the United States while he suffered from polio. Instead of allowing the disease to keep him from living a full life, he went above and beyond, training himself to walk without the power of his legs so that his voters would not know that he suffered in any capacity.

What this audiobook aims to do is determine who Franklin D. Roosevelt was as a person outside of the spotlight. This audiobook wants to answer questions about this man. How did he interact with his wife and family? What were his exploits and his vices? His favored hobbies?

Franklin Roosevelt: A Captivating Guide to the Life of FDR is an outline of Franklin D. Roosevelt's life that not only gives a brief overview of his best-known feats but also provides a glimpse into who he was as a person.

This is not an ordinary book.

It is a wonderful book. Sensed like I was part of the White House during Franklin Roosevelt’s era. Detail was really good. A long long Reid but so worth it....

It enhanced my knowledge about FDR.

I acquired this audible because I felt unhappily unaware about FDR. For years I have heard FDR put down as someone who opened up the country to big government and set the country up for a spend expansion that lives on to this day.

A book for every history lover.

I do enjoy reading about history, and wanted to understand abpit FDR. I'm not thrilled with the "entitlement" state he and FDR grew, but understand why -- at the time I agree certain things were needed, but since they grew up never having to work a day in their lives, they had little or no understanding of what regular people experience. So true with today's politicians, too,

Very good one biography of FDR

The author has written a readable, accurate and insightful biography. It is well-educated in many sanities including historically and economically as well as being well versed in domestic and foreign policy.

The top book, I love Franklin.

Franklin Roosevelt was the first president to serve more than two terms. He could not walk because he caught a disease called polio. His last words were "I have a terrible headache!" Many people missed him very much after his death.

Franklin Delano Roosevelt loving American.

Not very lengthy but concise book about our longest serving President. A lot of material here by the author. Well researched and presented in an unbiased manner. A very good read about one of the most important times in our countries history. Roosevelt was not all we believe him to be although he ended the depression and lead us to victory in WW2, he was a very cold and conniving person.

I felt a genuine pleasure while listening to it.

The author not only imprisonments every shade of the man and president we know as FDR, he has written what may be the best inclusive political history of the first half of the 20th century.

A great book........

Takes a strong point of view, but meticulously researched. A seminal work. My congratulations to Lord Black on a great piece of scholarship.

A Must Read

This is by far one of the best books I've ever read/listen. It was well done and gave a good historical viewpoint of the times. I have learned history and knew some things about wartime, I didn't know nearly as much as what was in this book. Of course, I'm trusting this is based on "fact," and not just the author's spin.

A great book about a great man.

The best biography of FDR I have ever read and I have read at least eight others. This book is superbly researched and a great read to boot.
