Publisher's summary
This now out-of-print underground release captures the incredible energy, creativity, and hysteria of the Un-Cabaret's birth. The legendary show was hailed as the "mother-show of alternative comedy" as Beth and her friends forged a new style of comedy that was real, true, intimate, emotional, and sometimes painfully honest.

Editorial reviews
What started out as a response to the suffering comedy club scene in Los Angeles quickly turned into one of the hottest tickets in town. Beth Lapides’s Un-Cabaret has hosted some of the biggest and funniest names in the business, and this production is another prime example of her amazing work. Featuring such comics as Janeane Garofalo, Andy Kindler, and David Cross, Freak Weather Feels Different is a hilarious recording that is a must-listen for all fans of standup and alternative comedy.

In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

Story
A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun).

Story
Traumatized by the bombing of Dresden at the time he had been imprisoned, Pilgrim drifts through all events and history, sometimes deeply implicated, sometimes a witness. He is surrounded by Vonnegut's usual large cast of continuing characters (notably here the hack science fiction writer Kilgore Trout and the alien Tralfamadorians, who oversee his life and remind him constantly that there is no causation, no order, no motive to existence).

Story
Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

Janeane and Julia and a horrible laugh
The worst of this is the atrocious recording quality. What on earth were they thinking?

Good for a quick laugh
This audiobook is a collection of short clips from various comedians, mainly Beth Lapides. Much of it is laugh-out-loud funny, but some was not so humorous to me, giving it a raw, uneven quality. Sometimes the laughter from audience members near the recorder almost drowns out the comedian. Some of the clips are very short, so it was hard to get "into" some of the bits; I listened to it while making several stops, so it didn't affect me as much as it might someone on a longer trip or commute who wants a lengthier audiobook. If you're looking for a quick laugh and aren't easily offended, this audiobook may do the trick.

Awful don't waste your money
What disappointed you about Freak Weather Feels Different?
So, I was totally bummed when I downloaded this book because you can't HEAR!!! It's a mash up of comedian performances that would otherwise be hilarious I'm sure but the audio is so terrible you can't hear what they are saying even if it is turned all the way up to MAX! Waste of money because it is worthless when you can't even hear the audio.
How could the performance have been better?
If I could HEAR IT!
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Total disappointment
Any additional comments?
I wish they could redo it and make it so I can hear it better and actually hear the jokes and be able to laugh!

Save your money!!
This book was un-funny. There is canned laughter which is louder than the performer. It is annoying to the nth degree. I'll never be able to get back that hour I lost listening to such drivel.

Fragmented and poorly produced
I am a huge fan of live storytelling podcasts and recordings so I was more than a little let down by the choppy, patched-together content contained in this compilation. There were a lot of little recorded snippets thrown into the mix and the overall effect was like flipping through channels on the TV without staying on one long enough to catch more than a sentence.
Also : I'm not super picky about crowd noise or less than optimal recording quality but this recording contained waaaaay too much cackling laughter directly into the microphone by the host and I was glad when the hour+ was over. The host leaves her mic on the entire time and peppers the performances with her own comments and grating laughter - it was obnoxious and I would liken it to heckling in some cases. I've listened to several other Uncabaret recordings which had some of the same interruptions - however, not to this extreme and not as grating as this one.
