About this listen
When Jason Milwaukee's best friend Sunshine vanishes, Jason knows that something is terribly wrong, but solving her disappearance will require pushing through all the voices in his head and then getting the world to listen to him. His schizophrenia is stopping him from remembering the events leading up to her disappearance, and often he discounts his own memories, and his own impressions. But his deep knowledge that he would never hurt his friend, plus the faith of his parents and a few others in the town bring him to the point of solving the mystery. In the end, it's Sunshine's own love for Jason (Freak) that persuades him of his own strength and goodness.
By turns brilliantly witty and searingly honest, Susan Vaught's newest novel is a laugh-out-loud, tear-jerking, coming-of-age story.

Loved it!!!
It is now one of my favorite books. definitely recommend, and I couldn't have asked for a better reader!!! : ) For those who are curious, there is no sexual content, but a bit of language.

Likeable Characters
I loved the alphabet kids. I'm raising two, one high functioning autistic and one with ADHD, who are still in elementary school. I would be proud to have my kids turn out like the protagonists in this story. This story was very relatable in that I'm also an officer in the Army as the mom, and it made me wonder how my kids view me. The performance was well done, and the characters were authentic, which could have been gimmicky or sterotyped considering their alphabet issues.

This story is through the perspective of a schizophrenic, so you need some time to get used to the writing, but it's GREAT. The narrator does a wonderful job of getting you into the mindset of the main character, and separating out the voices in his head. I felt real sympathy for the main character throughout the story, all the hurt from the people in his life and the hurt from his voices.
Do not try to listen if you have a headache, but it was wonderful!
