About this listen

Being a Magical Engineer is easy. You know what’s not easy? Trying to help stop a coup against one of the Arcane families. Or fighting against a bloodthirsty rebellion.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, I’m kind of juggling five men who are too good looking for their own good, and who hate each other. The only thing they have in common: They want me.

Bast might be okay with the harem life, But what about the rest of them? Can I make this work, Or am I going to just fall flat on my face causing an even bigger mess? Yeah, welcome to my crazyville.

At least I have my magic back. Now I just need to hold on to the family I've created for myself and find the strength to deal with this Frenetic life. No pressure, right?

Frenetic is book four of the Arcane Mage series, a reverse-harem romance intended for adult audiences.

AHHH, that ending

“Hot guy cuddle sandwich” how can you not love the things that roll through Char’s head.
Charisma is awesome. Honestly, who I wish I was. Her inner monolog is hilarious, the clumsiness is GOLD, and the fact she loves gaming makes me happy. I love that Char is powerful in her own right. She may not have a lot of magic, but she knows how to use the tools that she does have. She is also brilliant.
Lets talk Harem
Bast: I still absolutely love Bast. The more time we see him and the more things we learn about him the more I love him. I love the protectiveness that we see when someone else hurts Char. Weather that be on purpose or by accident. I do think the whole bet thing was blown out of proportion. Its not like the convo happened months ago. It was maybe 2 weeks’ time, and for most of that time she really didn’t interact with anyone. They were all giving her space and Andres told her literally the first time he saw her that was not at her best friend’s funeral. I get that its hurtful, but she acted like the bet has been going on for months and they were all over her trying to get in her pants. I digress. I love Bast and the way he knows just what Char needs and is encouraging her to figure out what she wants and who. He could have easily kept her for himself, and she would have never been the wiser
Andres: Brother Husband! It bares repeating because its just hilarious. I love his playful personality. I get that we keep being told that he’s this playboy but since book 2 when he made his intentions clear he hasn’t acted like a playboy more like the lovable squeezable side kick. Love seeing not all the Heirs family’s being stinking piles of poop. Andres family is hilarious
Bast and Andres: I knew they would have a brotherly relationship. And Brother husband?!? Hilarious. They seriously have an awesome relationship.
Blaze: still do not like him. But he is growing on me. He is going to have a really hard time dealing with the RH side of things. He’s way to possessive. Do not get me wrong I love possessive men but not with men that are going to be in the RH
Logan. I think if he gets past his superiority complex and actually gets to know Char and the other guys he will be a major softy but a massive Daddy in the sheets. I'm excited to learn more about him and see his motivations behind some of the things we have seen so far.
Theo: Jury is still out on Theo. His reasoning for what he did were sound but he went about it in the wrong way and I think he’s going to really struggle getting Chars forgiveness and his own forgiveness. I think in the end once Char hears the whole story she’s going to forgive him but he’s going to struggle with forgiving himself
I LOVE Blair. I'm obsessed. I hope we get to see so much more of her. She's honestly my spirt animal. I love her relationship with both her brothers. I hope in the end she gets maybe her own story? Her grandma is nuts in a hand basket and she knows it. And I’m here for it. I would love a prequel story following her.
The world building is interesting. The magic system is cool and it interesting to be able to differentiate between battle magic and technological magic. I could read book after book set in this world. I feel like there is so much potential. Char was still recovering from the bombing most of this book, so I hope we see more of her Bada$$ness in the next books.
My only thing that I have issues with, is this is the 4th book and the Harem is not even formed. There are hints of it but nothing substantial has happened
The narration was phenomenal as always. I could almost feel the emotion through the audio. highly recommended I love the dual narration that we see. it really helps us understand more of the characters since there are 6 main characters and the books are relatively short. We needed their POVs to learn more about them

Wonderful next installment!

I want to start by saying that the story was great and the sexier times were even better. That said, I hate cliffhangers!! This one was left off on a doozy too. I love the progression of the relationships between Charisma and her guys, although I’m sad about the state of one of them. Hopefully that comes around in the next two books. Even though i hate cliffhangers, I’m fully invested on what happens now so I have to see it through lol.
The narrators were good, but sometimes I felt like the male narration was a little forced, or over-acted and his voice seems a little more mature than the age of the characters. It didn’t detract from the story too much but it was noticeable. The female narrator was great. She had the perfect tone for Charisma and even managed the male voices pretty well.

As a fellow engineer, love the shirt on the cover!

I was happy to see some things speed up in this installment of the Arcane Mage series! Book 2 and 3 had slowed down for me but this one got back on track. We get to see Char with her magic back and creating some awesome METs and helping her potential guys get their tasks/challenges taken care of. I loved seeing her battling too, even if she is “just a Magical Engineer” haha. I thought the snark in this one was on point with the snark in book 1 (book 2 and 3 had less jokes that hit for me). I loved finally seeing some progression in her harem and the fun she was able to have! I love Bast, he is such a rock for Char and Andres is hilarious and like a golden retriever puppy you just can’t stay mad at haha.

I will say I am finally glad Char stopped being so stubborn about Blaze because I couldnt stand the whole thing about being mad at him and not listening to him. I was YEARS ago and it wasnt like he lied to her about it. Ughh so frustrating. But she hears him out, gets the scoop, and also proposes next steps and he can’t get onboard. I know from book 5 that maaaay be changing soon haha but I just want to shake him a little in this one. Like I do appreciate them all not jumping in right away because going from monogamous to poly is not an easy feat/a lot to take in, but he sees how happy she is, and should try it out anyway to see if he can truly do it or not. But more to come in book 5 I hope!

Logan has been an up and down thing for me in this one. From not caring about her to being super connected/drawn to her. I hope he proves himself more because he has a lot of explaining to do mister! I know he has a lot of things to contend with but his pompous attitude and disconnect with people needs to change if he is going to be a part of her harem. I did like the subplot him and Theo took and how they kinda connected. The part with Theo and the spirits was cool, but I sure hope we finally get some answers about the resistance/rebels in book 5 and 6 because we really have gotten nothing in terms of plot development/answers. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the romance and relationship developments but we need a good mix of plot and this one is not coming to the forefront yet and is a little frustrating.

OH and the side characters are interesting too, we get more from Bast’s amazing grandma, loved more of Blair (does she get her own story?? pretty please!) and even the side character villains are good. More to come on that in book 5! I really want to shake Christian though, he is driving me up a wall and I wish Char would stand up more for herself. I know he is trying to protect her but I am done with the way he talks to her/yells at her.

Narration was good like the others. Again these two are not my favorite for dual narration, they would be better just doing duet narrations but I still would give them 4-4.5 stars out of 5 for their performances. You felt the inner turmoil in this one from Char, the desperation from many of the guys. Good job overall, will definitely continue to listen to them in the future.

And that cliffhanger! Not as bad as some of the others in this series but thank goodness all of these are available on audio so I can just breeze though! I knew it was going to come, a lot of the twists/turns in this series are predictable but it didnt take away from the storyline in this case. I already am halfway through book 5 and it gets even better, that’s all I will say!

Not a lot of story 😔

If we could get more story around solving the mystery and fighting the rebellion, then this would be a good  book. Unfortunately, the majority of this book is the MC and her almost harem:
1. Saying silly stuff
2. Doing silly things
3. Just being silly.

It's at a point where this is not cute anymore.

Since I heard the next series is better at storytelling, I'm trying to push through this one.

But why are the 30 year olds acting like middle school kids. And half of them are special agents? WTH. Make it make sense.

Also, in less than 2 chapters, she went from thinking a harem was yucky to asking someone to join hers.

The narrator, Aletha George, continues to do a great job.

Please stop the practice of having the Female read one chapter, and the male narrator read the next. Just simply have the females do all the female characters, and the males do male voices. No need to have them do ALL if you have two narrators.

Great Story, Male Narrator is too Slow

Love the series, but the Male Narrator is so slow and emotionless I recommend increasing the speed to at least 1.2. The Female Narrator is fabulous, I wish she would have voiced all the characters.
