Story
Whether taken as a book of faith or a cultural artifact, the New Testament is among the most significant writings the world has ever known, its web of meaning relied upon by virtually every major writer in the last 2,000 years. Yet the New Testament is not only one of Western civilization’s most believed books, but also one of its most widely disputed, often maligned, and least clearly understood, with a vast number of people unaware of how it was written and transmitted.

Story
In a gay nightclub in Orlando on June 12, 2016, the shooter, Omar Mateen, murdered 49 people and wounded 53 others. The attack was the deadliest act of violence against the LGBTQ+ community in US history and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since 9/11. But there’s a story you haven’t heard. The FBI had a secret history with the shooter and his father. To obscure that history, the FBI pushed a false story that the media dutifully carried—that the attacker was a secretly gay Islamist extremist who had chosen to target Pulse and planned the attack for weeks.

Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Monster stories aren’t just meant to entertain. They’re meant to inform, even educate. Above all, they ask us to question our own humanity. Nowhere is this truer than in stories of serial killers. What are the origins of this monstrous archetype? Why are we so fascinated with such gruesome terror? What do they reveal about our fears and anxieties? Explore these and other questions in Serial Killers: Real and Imagined, where public scholar Emily Zarka looks at the serial-killer trope across history, from murky 17th-century legends to 21st-century true-crime obsessions.

At the height of World War II, Oak Ridge, Tennessee, was home to 75,000 residents, consuming more electricity than New York City. But to most of the world, the town did not exist. Thousands of civilians - many of them young women from small towns across the South - were recruited to this secret city, enticed by solid wages and the promise of war-ending work. Kept very much in the dark, few would ever guess the true nature of the tasks they performed each day in the hulking factories in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains.

For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Bart Ehrman is inerrant when it comes to his understanding of Christianity
OK, maybe not inerrant, But he is certainly one of the leading authorities on The subject of Christianity.
He also has a soft and easy speaking delivery that makes it very easy to listen to him speak.

A great interview and a great place to start
Any additional comments?
If you're on the fence about whether or not to purchase one of Mr. Ehrman's books, start here.
The particular focus of the interview is Mr. Ehrman's new book "God's Problem: How the Bible Fails to Answer Our Most Important Question - Why We Suffer." However, I would recommend this interview to anyone curious about Mr. Ehrman's work in general. Listeners on either side of the proposition will appreciate Mr. Ehrman's respectful, scholarly, matter of fact, and even tone; all should benefit from the discussion.
Mr. Ehrman first provides a brief personal background. He was a born again Christian (a 'fundamentalist Evangelical') who went to a fundamentalist bible college, then to Evangelical college to complete his college education, and finally to Princeton theological seminary where he was trained as a minister. He is now a distinguished professor of Religious Studies at UNC Chapel Hill.
Over time, his beliefs became more liberal and he began to question many of the standard theological explanations for suffering. During the interview, he discusses many of the standard explanations for suffering (e.g. free will) and explains to what extent these explanations are satisfactory (e.g. bad acts) and where they start to break down (e.g. natural disasters, disease).
He then discusses the problems with other theological explanations for suffering e.g. that it's all a part of God's unknowable plan; suffering is punishment (Old Testament); suffering is redemptive (Old and New Testament); suffering is a test of faith (Job and the inconsistencies in the story/texts are discussed), and so on.
[P.S. I found the interview compelling and interesting enough to purchase the book]
