About this listen
We began our journey in May 2020, right at the beginning of COVID. My first book was a diary of the first six months and all the things that went both right and wrong, and how clueless we truly were. You can find that book here: Full Time RV Living: The First 6 months: The True Story that no one tells you.
We chose this lifestyle to travel and visit the United States. Some people choose this lifestyle because they thought they would save money and stay on family or friends’ property. This is not us, and if that is what you are looking for, this book is not for you. Our goal was to see as much as possible until we decide we are done with this lifestyle.
To recap, I retired in May 2020 (John was already retired), and our plan was to head to Alaska, then down to Arizona for our first winter. COVID prevented us from crossing the border, and in retrospect the best thing for us. Many things went wrong during those first six months (detailed in the previous book), and the last thing that I would have wanted was to deal with repairs in the wilderness of Canada or Alaska with limited services.
We continued with our journeys even after all the difficulties and are planning on doing so until the winter of 2026. Every September we leave Michigan and head to either Florida or Arizona. We take different routes and take over a month to reach our destinations to experience different sections of the country.
I would like to discuss the realities and the joys and frustrations over the past five years and what you need to think about if this is something you are considering. I will discuss the six Fs of RV living: family, forming a plan, fixing items, finances, freedom, and the future.
