Editorial reviews

As any Texas Longhorns fan knows, the University of Texas's football team has a lot in its history to celebrate. In Michael Pearle and Bill Frisbie's Game of My Life: Texas Longhorns, tales from the team's victory-studded past are finally told. In deep, resonant tones, voice performer Bob Souer details the team's best moments, humorously explaining how Major Applewhite got his unusual name, and how Ricky Williams was lured back to the team with a Snickers bar. Souer gives voice to the memories of Vince Young, Earl Campbell, Duke Carlisle, James Brown, and more, making this collection compelling listening for all hardcore Horns fans.

Very well done

The structure of this book is excellent. It goes one player at a time, reviewing their history, and then focuses on one game, and then the last section of each chapter, "the game of my life." In this section, the player's own words describe some details and their emotions. The narrator is excellent. After getting into the flow of the book, those words and how the narrator said them heightened my senses for the personal revelations that follow. I had season tickets and went to many of these games, most notably, the Halloween in Lincoln that snapped the 47 home win streak. I remember the applause from the audience as Mack and Ricky were the last Longhorns to leave the field after TV interviews. The book brought back clear memories of where I was - a corporate Christmas party during the first Big 12 Championship, in the San Francisco airport when Ricky broke the record against a&m. To the authors - thank you. To my father - thank you. We had some great times together at Memorial Stadium and in the car listening to the radio broadcasts going hunting.
