About this listen
"In cooperation with police and federal law enforcement departments throughout the United States..."
When Phillips H. Lord created his long running Gang Busters radio series in January of 1936, crime was rampant and criminals (both actual and fictional) were being glamorized in movies and newspapers. In response, Lord brought the public this police procedural series, dramatizing stories of real cops who kept real counterfeiters, safe crackers, and killers off the streets - and even broadcasting alerts for criminals known to be at large. These 20 digitally remastered and restored episodes present raw case histories that point out an ancient truth: that society's way is the best way, and that he who flagrantly defies law and custom never wins… and usually pays a stiff price for his boldness.
EPISODES INCLUDE: "The Case of Dwight Beard" 11-01-40, "The Case of the Nickel and Dime Bandits" 03-28-41, "The Case of the Missing Corpse" (or "The Case of Mrs. Gangbusters") 04-04-41, "The Case of the Jersey Butcher Bandits" 11-08-47, "The Case of the Triple Threat Bandit" 12-27-47, "The Case of the Oliver Brothers" (or "Brothers in Banditry") 01-31-48, "The Case of the Broadway Bandits" 03-20-48, "The Case of the Cumberland Safe Cracker" (or "The Case of the Ray Ernest Gang") 03-27-48, "The Case of the High School Hot Shots" 04-10-48, "The Case of the Quincy Killers" 04-24-48, "The Case of Craig and Motes" (or "The Case of the Tennessee Triggermen") 06-19-48, "The Case of the Mysterious Rooming House" 07-24-48, "The Case of the Cincinnati Narcotics Ring" 09-25-48, "The Case of the Appointment With Death" 12-18-48, "The Case of the Counterfeit Combine" 01-29-49, "The Case of the Sledgehammer Handicap" (or "The Case of the Laughing Bandits") 06-11-49, "The Case of the Elusive Leader" 10-22-49, "The Case of the Hue and the Cry" 11-26-49, "The Case of the Golden Touch" 01-07-50, "The Case of the Lost Gun" (or "The Danville Bank Job") 02-05-55

This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

Story
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Story
Tess Strebel can’t recognize her own face. She can’t recognize her home. Her bedroom is unfamiliar. And she can’t remember the handsome stranger lying next to her in bed. A stranger who claims he’s her husband. Tess reads a letter in her own handwriting, composed during a rare lucid day, explaining her life as it now exists: she was in a terrible car accident one year ago. Every morning, she wakes up unable to remember most of the last decade. Including her own wedding.

Enough With The Acting See...
I ordered this with a credit from Audible. Instead of having the book read, it's horribly acted out. I really wish they gave you an option of either having a BOOK read to you or acted out. I had high hopes for this one but I couldn't make it 15 minutes before I tapped out, see. Modern day actors trying to sound like actors from the 40's and 50's who were trying to sound like gangsters from the 40's. Very disappointed.
