"The strength of Detwiler's accomplishment lies in his ability to explain concisely what was at the root of complex matters such as the lay investiture controversy-and to choose the right things to explain." ( Library Journal)
"He capsulizes main German trends and thoughts in an exciting manner so that the reader is easily motivated to learn more about German history." ( German Quarterly)
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The computer-generated voice on my e-reader gives a smoother presentation and adds more inflection than this reader. He does not appear to understand the concept of phrasing, because it sounds like he takes a breath in between each word. It was so bad I could not finish what might have been an interesting book. You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The book has a lot of interesting information, but buy the book, do not buy the audiobook.Worst reader ever.
