About this listen
Ghosts of Old Europe offers a very different kind of tour to the armchair traveler. Wander through the haunted castles and cottages of Europe with Hans Holzer, the world’s most famous psychic investigator, and explore a full range of psychic phenomena from the spirits of the British Isles to the haunts of Imperial Vienna.
In England, Anne Boleyn's legendary ghost walks headless within the Tower of London; a procession of transparent monks appears in the Cathedral at Winchester, where no monks have trod since the 16th century; and Bloody Queen Mary still visits the four-poster bed where she slept in the dark days of 1553.
At Kilkea Castle in Kildare, it is said that the Wizard Earl and his companions ride at night and will return someday from the beyond to “put things right in Ireland”. Room number two in the Hotel de l’Europe in Avignon holds a shocking surprise for the unwary guest; and in Paris, No. 3 avenue Montaigne offers a special concert of ghostly piano music from a spectral grand.
Ghosts occur wherever a great tragedy has left an unfortunate person stranded between the next world and this one, someone who has not yet been freed from their own emotional turmoil. The true accounts presented in this book are based on Dr. Holzer's personal investigations.
Should you have occasion to visit some of these special sites yourself—if you are psychically gifted (and nearly everyone is to a varying degree)—chances are you may also have a true experience, ranging from a psychic “impression” of past events to an apparition, or perhaps you will hear an unworldly sound. Meanwhile, with this volume in hand, you can hear of the long-dead Black Knight of Pflindsberg galloping wildly up the mountain—from the comfort of your own home.

Story
Dixie, with its romantic moods and old-world charm, is particularly prone to harbor phantoms, such as the Gray Man of Pawley's Island, South Carolina, who warns of impending disaster, or headless Joe Baldwin and the famed Maco light of Wilmington. In perhaps the most chilling account, a Tyler, Texas, family suffers years of agony at the hands of a particularly destructive poltergeist. Insects come from nowhere to literally rain on them in their home, and heavy objects are seen to move through space.

According to Hans Holzer, an expert in psychic phenomena, the ghosts of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Jean Harlow, and other top stars still inhabit the Hollywood mansions in which they once lived. Compelled to seek the peace that eluded them when they were alive, they now roam the corridors of their former homes, lost in the shadowy world between life and death.

If you think that extrasensory perception (ESP) is a power reserved for crystal-ball gazers, gypsies, believers in the occult, or something to watch on late-night television, this audiobook will come as a big surprise. For ESP is a power latent in each one of us. Every single man, woman, and child has the ability to obtain information beyond the limitations of the time-space continuum. If we're not aware of this force, we're either ignoring it, suppressing it, or ascribing the phenomenon to other causes.

Story
Werner Herzog was born in September 1942 in Munich, Germany, at a turning point in the Second World War. Soon Germany would be defeated and a new world would have to be made out the rubble and horrors of the war. Fleeing the Allied bombing raids, Herzog’s mother took him and his older brother to a remote, rustic part of Bavaria where he would spend much of his childhood hungry, without running water, in deep poverty. It was there, as the new postwar order was emerging, that one of the most visionary filmmakers of the next seven decades was formed.

'Between the Stops is a sort of a memoir, my sort. It's about a bus trip really, because it's my view from the Number 12 bus (mostly top deck, the seat at the front on the right), a double-decker that plies its way from Dulwich, in South East London, where I was living, to where I sometimes work - at the BBC, in the heart of the capital. It's not a sensible way to write a memoir at all, probably, but it's the way things pop into your head as you travel, so it's my way'.

In Alma Fielding’s modest home, china flies off the shelves and eggs fly through the air; stolen jewelry appears on her fingers, white mice crawl out of her handbag, beetles appear from under her gloves; in the middle of a car journey, a turtle materializes on her lap. The culprit is incorporeal. As Alma cannot call the police, she calls the papers instead.

"The Other Crowd", "The Good People", "The Wee Folk", and "Them" are a few of the names given to the fairies by the people of Ireland. Honored for their gifts and feared for their wrath, the fairies remind us to respect the world we live in and the forces we cannot see. In these tales of fairy forts, fairy trees, ancient histories, and modern true-life encounters with the Other Crowd, Eddie Lenihan opens our eyes to this invisible world with the passion and bluntness of a seanchai, a true Irish storyteller.

Margaret was born into the Scottish aristocracy, into a now almost vanished world of privilege. Royalty often came to stay, and her house was run in the style of Downton Abbey. During the Second World War, she "lodged" at Buckingham Palace while she worked for MI5.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
Just before Christmas in 1843, a debt-ridden and dispirited Charles Dickens wrote a small book he hoped would keep his creditors at bay. His publisher turned it down, so Dickens used what little money he had to put out A Christmas Carol himself. He worried it might be the end of his career as a novelist. The book immediately caused a sensation. And it breathed new life into a holiday that had fallen into disfavor, undermined by lingering Puritanism and the cold modernity of the Industrial Revolution.
