About this listen

Susan Monroe doesn't ask for much: good grades from her children, a house with room for a pool, to be the best Tupperware party host in New Haven '56.

But inside her tranquil 1950s styled community, a monster lurks. A monster that lives inside Susan, and every one of her superficially perfect neighbors, held in check by the oppressive police state that rules over them. Susan's happy life is torn apart when her teenage son goes missing the same night an explosion rips apart the community.

Susan knows it's only a matter of time before the police start breaking down their doors. Before the reconditioning begins and Susan's identity is lost, she must do one final thing. Find her son.

nice ideas

Thank you so much for this story. I would probably never have picked it if not suggested and I would have missed out. Wendy did an amazing job as usual. I really enjoy listening to her. I can't wait for more.

Narrator

Poor. Inappropriate inflection and pronunciation of certain words. Deadpan voice. Took away from the story for me.

Any additional comments?

Well-written and narrated fast-paced dystopian thriller with a paranormal twist. A new race is formed and society creates dome-like pods with perfection to contain and control them.I recommend this book who like dystopian thriller

Any additional comments?

This book was incredible !The storyline was well thought out and fresh.I would LOVE to live in a 'New Haven'!As long as everyone does as they are supposed to that is.While this story was great, the narrator,Wendy Pitts could have been a bit better. The main character's 'voice' was ok but everyone else was very 'stilted'.I feel that with time she will be a great narrator. All in all a great read and I would listen to a sequel.

it was just ok for me

the story was good but not great, there were all kinds of small contradictions. there is no new t.v. shows because the movie stars were all eaten, but there was news broadcasts? I felt she didn't do a great job of explaining what glistenings were, how they worked, why they were secluded. I thought the story was just ok, it could have been better. I liked the over all idea but it needed to feel more consistent. it also jumped around a little. I'm not dying to pick up the second book, especially if it's narrated by the same woman. she sounded like she was tired or sleepy. it sometimes sounded like she was trying to speak with a mouthful of marshmallows. her words were garbled, and the emotion wasn't there for me, I didn't feel the fear or shame or joy. the action in the narration was non-existent.
