Great Book

What does Tim Gregory bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Tim Gregory did a great job reading. I thought the reader keep it alive.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

This book is a great summary of apologetics. It lays out in layman terms why and how we got the Bible today. Also touches on other religions. I enjoyed and will listen to it again.

Great confidence booster in scripture

it's good. if you've ever studied into reasons why scripture is true you may not find too many things that you haven't heard before. if not, you will be surprised how much more reliable the Bible of 2000 years ago really is! unbelievers likely won't be converted by this book so much as honest truth seeker will. overall a great faith strengthening book!

Great witnessing tool!!

This book will force a skeptic of the Bible to either stick with the lie (knowing it’s a lie) that scripture can’t be trusted -out of rebellion, or turn to Jesus knowing that the Bible is God Breathed.

Spot on until the end.

I feel this book was an excellent apologetics presentation on the Bible. I’m a Baptist pastor and was familiar with most of this information and even learned some more. However, the final chapter was problematic.

I feel Josh failed to differentiate between God’s interaction with us in the realm of judicial justification and our growth in sanctification. He almost painted God as this “anything goes” no consequence, spineless jellyfish in the final chapter instead of a father who chastens.

It is true in the sense of justification that God does indeed look at us through a non-judgmental, non-accusing perspective (Romans 8:1), but this is not the case in our day to day walk. We have been adopted into God’s family and we are His adopted children. Nothing we can do can destroy that relationship. However, Hebrew’s 12:1-8 clearly teaches God will not allow His children to live in unrepentant sin.

He will chasten (punish/correct) that sin until the son repents. If His Christian does not repent, it is a sign this Christian is not a true believer but a illegitimate son (Hebrews 12:8). This is clearly taught in that passage.

Im afraid Josh applied many of the passages that teach God’s judicial acceptance to His Spirit-led relationship. God does break fellowship with Christians but never relationship. Once they are saved, they are always saved. However, if fellowship is broken, He will gently correct until the Christian repents (1 John 1:9).

If repentance does not result, chastisement and scourging will. This is clear, orthodox Christian dogma I wish Josh presented better.
Other than that, the book was top notch and extreme well done. I may be nit-picking but this was a concern I didn’t want to ignore.

Proof the Bible is true

The author gives great evidence as to how and why the Bible is accurate and true. This book is filled with lots of facts and examples. I’d recommend this book for any one with doubts in their faith or any one who is questioning the validity of Christianity or the one true God.

I gave only 3 stars because I was expecting something different when I listened to it. A book full of facts is kinda hard to listen to for several hours.

Wont sway anyone not already indocuranted

Would you ever listen to anything by Josh McDowell again?

Most likely not. Mostly because I don't agree with his views.

Any additional comments?

This book is just a large echo chamber and his source are dubious at best. His claims of "studying dead sea scrolls". No. He tells the story's of how he was funding the study of the scroll by other individuals who know things like Greek and Hebrew. I'm sorry you can say YOU studied dead sea scrolls if in fact you CANT READ THEM.

A true believer book; Not for skeptics

What would have made God-Breathed better?

Better editing and proofreading for accuracy and contradictions.Example: The author goes into great length to detail the accuracy of the Bible by describing the meticulous effort taken by scribes in copying the Hebrew Bible manuscript but later on explains away the misspelling words, overlooked words or incorrectly written words in the New Testament by stating the scribes were tired, human. If the scribes of the Hebrew Bible were meticulous, careful led by the Holy Spirit to accurately copy the Hebrew Bible (99% accurate according to the author) then why the scribes of the New Testament were not also as meticulous, careful led by the Holy Spirit???

What could Josh McDowell have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Nothing really. This book wasn't written for me, a skeptic. This book was written to the true believers to reinforce the belief the Bible is accurate and the inerrant word of God.

Would you be willing to try another one of Tim Gregory’s performances?

Tim Gregory's performance yes. Another Josh McDowell book...not so much

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The only redeeming quality I derived from the book is the great length true believers will go to prove the accuracy of the Bible.

Any additional comments?

I find it interesting the great length this author goes to prove the accuracy of the Bible by comparing it to other ancient texts.Yes, side by side comparison the Bible stands head and shoulders above the other ancient texts but then again only the Bible is claimed to be the inerrant word of God so it has a much higher standard to meet and unfortunately it does not reach it.
