Publisher's summary
From the beloved author of Horses Speak of God comes a warm and inspiring guide to the life lessons we can learn from horses
Laurie Brock, Episcopal priest, messy Christian, and horse lover, shares the experiences of love, grief, humility, joy, and deep wisdom that she discovers day to day with horses. From barely-there trails in the Grand Tetons to muddy fields in the Kentucky Bluegrass, God is revealed in the simple ways of these magnificent creatures. For anyone feeling doubtful, distracted, or anxious in these challenging times, Laurie brings us back to center, reminding us to breathe, get back on the saddle, and move beyond the familiar into the freedom of something new.

Story
This is what happens when a writer, preacher, and lover of words encounters some of creation’s wisest theologians: horses. First, she argues with them. They are, after all, horses. What could they possibly know about life and God that theologians haven’t already written? But slowly, she engages their language and listens to their holy wisdom, attending to how they express their being, actions, and relationships. She allows horses to draw her out of the faith of intellect and into a deeper faith of emotion, body, and soul.

Monty Roberts' father, a traditional horse trainer, had taught his son to dominate a horse in order to "break" it. But when he was 13, Monty made a discovery that changed his life. As he watched a mare tame a rebellious colt, Monty saw that she was speaking to it through eye and body movements. Astonished, Monty realized that he could train horses by using their language, speaking to them in ways that would form trust and understanding. Developing techniques based on what he learned from the horses around him, Monty embarked on a remarkable career - one that would bring him international fame as the real Horse Whisperer.

That's not Mark Rashid's view. In her research of horsemen and women who have a gift with horses, Dr. Susan Fay outlines the invisible things these equestrians do that make their interactions with horses seem effortless. As a research scientist and life-long equestrian, Dr. Fay spent more than two decades searching for scientific explanations for why some people are able to develop seemingly spiritual relationships with horses.

In the horse industry, working students aspire to become professional riders or trainers, and willingly trade labor for hands-on education.

Story
Monty Roberts' father, a traditional horse trainer, had taught his son to dominate a horse in order to "break" it. But when he was 13, Monty made a discovery that changed his life. As he watched a mare tame a rebellious colt, Monty saw that she was speaking to it through eye and body movements. Astonished, Monty realized that he could train horses by using their language, speaking to them in ways that would form trust and understanding. Developing techniques based on what he learned from the horses around him, Monty embarked on a remarkable career - one that would bring him international fame as the real Horse Whisperer.

From simple practices such as walking, working, and getting lost to deep meditations on topics like prayer and pronouncing blessings, Taylor reveals concrete ways to discover the sacred in the small things we do and see. Something as ordinary as hanging clothes on a clothesline becomes an act of devotion if we pay attention to what we are doing and take time to attend to the sights, smells, and sounds around us. Making eye contact with the cashier at the grocery store becomes a moment of true human connection.

After years of abuse, Samson had evolved into a hateful and hated, maladjusted beast - until the day he found his way to a rural Illinois farm, an ill-equipped owner, and one last chance.

Story
Abby Lovitt has been riding horses for as long as she can remember, but Daddy hasn't let her name a single one. He calls all their geldings George and their mares Jewel and warns her not to get attached. The horses are there on the ranch to be sold, plain and simple. But with all the stress at school (the Big Four - Linda, Mary A., Mary N., Joan - have turned against her) and home (nothing feels right with her brother, Danny, gone), Abby can't help but seek comfort in the Georges and the Jewels, who greet her every day with soft nickers.

Remarkable
Mixing God, Grace, and Horses is simply a Godsend! Listening to Laurie’s story and it being intertwined with God and Horses was a very therapeutic listen for me. I am a somewhat troubled horsewoman at times and it is just what I needed at this time! Thank you Laurie Brock and God Bless you!

Spirituality seen through a horse lovers eyes.
What a wonderful read! The author does an amazing job of intertwining her love of horses with her spiritual life and relaying those life lessons to the reader. As a horse lover, she gives meaning to all the hours I’ve spent on the back of a horse and made me realize that my Sunday rides were more than a walk in the woods. I haven’t ridden in several years and I didn’t really understand until now, that that was my place of reflection and spirituality. This Book reminds me that I really treasure the memories and miss those rides through the woods. I know I’m not alone in thinking that every trail would better on a horse!
You don’t have to be a horse lover to enjoy this book, there is so much more to the story.
