Publisher's summary

In Mike Huckabee's new book God, Guns, Grits and Gravy, he asks the question, "Have I been taken to a different planet than the one on which I grew up?" The New York Times best-selling author explores today's American culture, drawing from his travels as a presidential candidate to present average, small-town people and families, and their optimistic resilience in the face of hard times; their stories, says Huckabee, "will inspire readers to think about their own values and rediscover what makes America great." At times lighthearted, at others bracingly realistic, Huckabee's brand of optimistic patriotism lends itself to discussing the reintroduction of fundamental American values, as well as a bright outlook for future generations.

Excellent!

This book expresses the deep-rooted thoughts and feelings of conservative, hard-working middle class folks who are too often silenced. The delivery is straightforward, honest and comical at times. I recommend this book to anyone who is truly concerned about the direction our country is taking. Get ready for an entertaining recap of our history and our future possibilities!

Great book, great narration

This book gives you a great insight into the brain of Mike Huckabee. It was refreshing to know someone in politics has common sense and sticks to his beliefs, instead of selling out to the highest bidder.

Greatness!!

Common sense at its finest. I just wish enough of America would understand and do what takes to make a difference.

Tell it like it is!

Mike spoke from the heart and true life experiences. He was genuine, down to earth and factual. He used humor and wit with great timing. I wish those in the north and on the left and right coast would read this before heading south. Job will done, my friend.

Mike Huckabee shares basic commons sense politely!

What made the experience of listening to God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy the most enjoyable?

As someone who supported his campaign for president, I am not surprised that I liked what he had to say. What did surprise me is that he was able to encourage me. I frankly have all but given up any hope for our government, political process or the ability for anyone without millions of dollars to have any impact on either.

Who was your favorite character and why?

There were really characters, unless of course you consider real life people such as the people Mike refers to as those living in "Bubbleville" versus those living in "Bubbaville". In that case, it is the Bubbaville folks. Having said that two individuals stood out Nancy the makeup artist who got a ride home from the Papa John's Pizza delivery guy and Jim Bob Duggar.

What about Mike Huckabee’s performance did you like?

Mike has a way of talking that is just plain easy to listen to. Even when he was talking about complex and hard to follow things like economics, he was clear and concise. Plus he is good at mixing in a bit of wit where it fits best. IO suppose reading what you wrote makes that a little easier to do.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

I actually, purchased the Kindle edition so I could go back and listen again and highlight sections I particularly liked or wanted to share with others. I am likely to buy paper editions for sharing as well.

Review

A excellent perspective of what the average US citizen sees wrong with the national political powerhouses today and the Obama administration. Differently recommend this book.

Well worth the read.

Michael could be really puts his heart into this book. I mean that with respect both to the writing, and the reading of it. Yes, he treats serious subjects and this is where it: but, he does so when such a lighthearted fashion, that the book bothers you until you finish it. I mean bothers in a good way. This is well worth the read, and, I dare say, that you will listen to it 1000 times over and get something you from each and every time.

Loved it

He is spot on. Sad more of our leader don't see what is happening to our country. Mr Huckabee thinks of GOD, people and his country more than most.
