Critic reviews

" God's Word is an easy-to-understand Bible. . . . It is a wonderful version." (Rev. Billy Graham)

I love this translation: have loved it ever since William Beck's version of the New Testament came out in the sixties. (God's Word was originally inspired by Beck's work, although the translation itself is entirely new.) I wish Baker Publishing would produce a companion audiobook of the Old Testament as well. My only complaint is Stephen Johnston's narration. It's not that he's a bad reader: he's good: very clear, very smooth, very well-modulated; but no matter what passage he's reading, his pace never slackens; he never pauses for effect. One verse doth tread upon the heels of another, they follow so hard upon. It gives the reading a rushed feel.

But I would still recommend this. With a translation as easy to follow as this one, the brisk pace never interferes with comprehension. All things considered, this is one of the better standalone New Testament readings available.

Good translation, pace a little too brisk
