About this listen

Detective. Angel. Victim. Devil.

A haunting tale of suspense, loss, isolation, contempt, and fear.

On November 1, 1951, war hero John Ashton was promoted to detective. His first assignment: find the district attorney’s missing daughter. But his only lead is Alena Francon, a high society sculptor and socialite committed to Bellevue’s psychiatric facility.

Alena has a story for the new detective. A story so outlandish John Ashton refuses to heed the warning. Alena admits to incarnating Golem, a demonic force, into her statue. A devil so profound he’s infiltrated every part of New York’s infrastructure. Even worse, he uses children to serve as bodily hosts for his demonic army, unleashing a horde of devils into our world.

When Alena’s confidant, Annette Flemming, confirms the existence of Golem, John is sent on a collision course where fate and destiny spiral into peril, and the future of the human race hangs in the balance.

The Devil Is In The Details!

Fans of The Silence of the Lambs, Clive Barker, John Connolly, Stephen King, and Anne Rice will be fascinated by this edge of your seat psychological horror novel with a story that rips out the heart of humanity and throws it on a slab to be feasted on.

I thought this was great! The legend of golem and how he came to be was amazing. I loved the character of Alena. I could almost feel her pain it was so well written. The narrator was for sure one of the best I’ve heard. She got voices and creepy tones down. I loved also in certain parts you can hear Chanting in the background. Can’t wait to read more of his work!

Awesome narrative

a mix of the audible guilty and poor depiction of the voice and ways certain characters talk made it a hard listen. like golem a "man" that has all women looking at him and fawning over is every word. make him sound lurch from the adam family. message to the author, if you could choose who performs your book never choose this "performer" again. other then that great story and well written.

great story poor narration

PD Alleva did wonders with this book! I love his take on the creation of a golem. Michelle was a perfect choice for the narrator.

It took me longer than I expected to get going, but the story is solid and the characters make sense. I enjoyed the narrator but her voice was a little too soothing. This turned out to be such a great story!

Starts off slow but such a finish

Golem is a solid 3.5 for me. Because most people bump up, I’m bumping down for how many times I wanted to stop reading the book.
Over an 11 hour audiobook. Whew. Took awhile to get through it. I’m not a big fan of long books as I feel there is usually just too much information that can be condensed and this certainly rung true for Golem. I really liked the idea of who Golem was and how he came into existence. I didn’t know anything about what a Golem was in the Jewish Folklore stories and appreciated the authors note and the end of the book. However, I would have liked to have known that at the beginning. I think I would have done a little research into the folklore before diving into the book. I might have even enjoyed the book more with that knowledge. I did enjoy the way the story line went but it definitely a slow burn. I wanted to quit reading many times but continued so I could find out what happens and and I hate to leave a book unfinished. There’s a hint there may be a second book. Depending on the length I may read it but if it’s this long, I won’t be. The narrator is great and I would highly recommend her for other authors. 5 stars for her performance.
