Mediocre stories and reading

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Only because I was in the car without reliable radio signal, and I paid for it so I was going to listen to it.

Would you recommend Great Women Fiction Writers to your friends? Why or why not?

No. Some of the stories were OK - and I probably read those 40 years ago. Some were pretty lame. I expected short stories, and the leading novella was way too long for the short trips I intended this book for.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Cathy Dobson?

No. It's mostly not her fault, but I took a dislike to her 10 minutes or so into the opening novella, which is when I realized the narrator/protagonist was a man as opposed to the Victorian prisspants her reading painted in my mind's eye. It's my own fault for not researching the book better before I bought it. That said, I really don't care for her smooth, plummy Britishness unless the story she's reading demands it. I've been listening to "Tune In," the Beatles bio, and the narrator is amazing - much more life and nuance to his reading.

Did Great Women Fiction Writers inspire you to do anything?

Research my purchases better in the future.

Any additional comments?

This was one of the first books I bought, and if the second one wasn't the Beatles "Tune In" bio, I would not have continued with Audible. It seems to be that it's basically just something to fill a square - "Great Women Writers," check.
