Help when you need it
This really is a book that can help you recover and move forward after a loss. The book offers a 7 step framework to help you heal and find hope again. One of the best parts of this book are the strategies to balance life without hiding emotions and thoroughly explaining the states of grief and different types of loss. The book has quite a lot of personal stories that I found helpful as they make you feel like you are not alone in this.

Spot-on, compassionate writing
The trauma of losing a loved one is something that seemingly never really goes away, even with all of the talk therapy we can muster sitting through. However, there are many actions we can take–lots that I had no idea about, such as honoring one’s feelings, proper communicative methods, and really sitting with your grief–that really open up the doorway of getting through these tough times and looking to brighter years ahead. James LaVeck demonstrates expert narration along with his spot-on, compassionate writing that brings about a healing tone for ameliorating the grief that comes from loss and getting the listener back into more sunnier horizons.

Uplifitng book for everyone - loved it!
This was a timely book for me having lost a parent a few months ago and with my partner facing a serious illness with his dad.
What I loved about this book, amongst many things, was not only its straight-forward no-nonsense description of how it feels but acknowledging that for each of us - it impacts differently. We are all unique in the ways we find to cope and to grieve, and at the end of it all, it teaches us about love with tools to calm and to cope in the moments when you feel the waves of grief.
But its an uplifting book, like having a great chat with a friend who reminds you to do the things that they know that you can do and to embrace the new chapters ahead as we learn how to heal and to appreciate where and how we have grown.
The entire focus on personal growth can only be a wonderful legacy and the book contains lots of ways of helping us to this from breathing, visualisation, mindfulness and intention setting and the idea of a purpose journal was a perfect idea particularly if its linked to the passion and impacts that our loved one had. We should all do a legacy project and follow the prompts within this book, and remember to smile and hope for our memories and our new ones that we are yet to create! It reminds us to appreciating ourselves and to always have hope because it matters all of the time, not only in times of loss.
I lovely book and one that everyone should listen to.
