Publisher's summary

The Dusmen are invading, and nothing will stop Provine Sael from leading an investigation into the many questions about the northerner’s late start, and so Grog and Burk must march north as well. With the onset of the war, both sides have stripped the border of troops, and it may well be safe for the small band to slip into enemy territory and poke into odd corners in search of the truth. The north is a little-known land, home to rumors about rivers of unmelting ice, dragons, dead cities from the dawn of time, and countless other stories which may be legend, myth, fact, or a combination of all three.Grog and Burk are free, and in the short weeks since their return to civilization, the brutes (half-Human, half-Ukar) have had to face many decisions, something neither Grog nor Burk enjoys. But on their own or with the group, they uphold the honor of the Ebon Blades, a barracks of the old school, secure in the knowledge that Master Horne expects them to do their very best.

repetition

How many times can you repeat the same thing over and over to try to stretch the story. First book was amazing, this one just drones on and on with monotonous baloney?

Chandler and an AI go into the pit. Only one comes out.

The story was good, but it suffered heavily due to the AI reading. Every single mispronounced name was like a jolt of electricity, pulling me back out of the story.
There are also MANY times where, due to poor (or rather, absolute lack of) inflection, it is unclear who is speaking. It felt like completely different characters, like I didn't know Grog, or really care about him, because this wasn't the REAL Grog.
This book also contains a character with a speech impediment, and the AI... Well geez man, I've known people with speech impediments and stutters and tourettes, and it doesn't bother me. But this was brutal. The AI would literally say the letters M H M, as well as other unintelligible noises that I couldn't tell if it was supposed to be a real word or another mhm or a mispronunciation or what.
Bring back Chandler, please! Would've been 5/5.

Do not use virtual voice

Mispronounced names, timing off, no feelings and made listeners work harder to enjoy the story. Bring back A. T. Chandler!!
