Let's imagine you are a believer in the first-century church. This is the church we read about in the Scriptures. To the first century church, the experience of speaking in tongues would be as common and as normal as praying the sinner’s prayer is today. Speaking in unknown tongues for the New Testament believer in the first-century church was as common and necessary as we view water baptism today. I'll show you this in the Scriptures. Tongues were not disturbing in the days of the first-century church writers. It's sad how we've allowed so-called theologians to make tongues disturbing.
