About this listen

Audio Journeys explores the HMS Queen Mary, the third largest passenger sailing ship ever built. A second home to many of the rich and famous, it was a place where Henry Ford made deals, Henry Kissinger fought wars, and famous people entertained. With its Art Deco design, it sailed from England to New York 1,001 times between 1936 and December 11, 1967.

Editorial reviews

American travel journalist Patricia L. Lawrence visits the HMS Queen Mary, the third-largest passenger liner ever built. She has a warm and inquisitive manner that is well suited to presenting historical material. She meets with a ship’s officer who talks about the Queen Mary, which in addition to being transport for the rich and famous, had been used to carry troops and to ferry war brides from England. Between 1936 to 1967, the liner, which contains Art Deco design, sailed 1,001 times from Southampton to New York.
